Small reloading bench ideas?

Belly Benchrester

I’m Looking for a bench to fit in a small space that will be good enough to support resizing brass with a rock chucker. If anyone has anything out there on the market they recommend.

disclaimer: im not setup to build anything at the moment. If you have a link to something for sale online I would appreciate that

Sir,
Somewhere on AS, maybe in the Bulletin, someone used a Black & Decker (Workmate) portable work center for a compact and portable reloading bench. Quick Google search of sawhorses & work stands.
Hope this helps.
Tim

Just an idea.....

Look into a portable setup. Lots of info on this from the competition guys. How would you load at the range,in other words?

Now,when sometime in the future you get that "dream bench" or whatever,in place.... you're still going to appreciate the mobile setup.

Good luck with your project! And we like pics,on what you come up with.

I lost my reloading space beneath the basement stairwell to a mini bathroom ( : I now have a small space in a utility room to set up shop. I have ordered (off Amazon) a build it yourself 2x4 bench kit that you can custom in regard to size. The purchased kit consists of heavy duty plastic corners that you attach your 2x4's to. I can make the bench the width/dept/height to fit my space. I'm going to start on it today, we'll see how it goes.

I'm using a work station from Harbor Freight.
Metal with pegboard in back. A high shelf with LED light under the shelf. 2 drawers and outlet strip.
If your doing forming on it, i'd reccomend an additional piece of plywood for the work surface.

Are you looking for a work area like a table or bench? Or something more like a pedestal to just mount the press?

Tool stands come in many shapes, sizes and heights, think a pedestal for a grinder, or a bench mounted drill press or table saw. Home depo, Lowe’s, harbor freight, generally have the in stock where you could get a look.

A simple press mount like this can be set on almost any stable surface.

I use the pedestal from a bar table like this that I liberated when a restaurant was remodeling. They can be had much cheaper or free if you’re patient or lucky.

Hope that helps for ideas.

Because of limited space and a desire to put it away when not it use I started reloading pistol on a red 2 drawer harbor freight cart w locking wheels. Plywood fastened on the top then 2x6 for the press to mount through.

The rifle i now do in/ on a true bench, 6mm, 30br, 243 would work on it. Not too much of brute needed.

I'd probably fix something up to hold it more stable but it being able to go anywhere in the house is good.
I'd remount a press and use it anytime. Totally satisfied with it.

My wood bench is also a HF 4 drawer wood workers bench. I raised it 5" and put a shelf 6" on the wall behind it to make it deeper. Filled in the holes with dowels. Realy do like it. Solid as a rock.

I used this shelving unit from any box store and put it together to use use as a work space. I originally used it for fly tying, but it has been used for electronics work, and now is my reloading bench.

As long as you attach it to the wall, it is very stable.

By the way, ignore the mess.

I have had a Big Boss II mounted to that Harbor Freight universal bench grinder stand for over 10 years. I have another one now mounted on a bench, so the one on the grinder stand pulls decapping and other low volume duties, but I used it as my primary press for a number of years.

With some lumber and imagination build any size or shape. Searching for something premade to fit exactly where I want it is a pain in the azz. I hate shopping. I love building. And I enjoy the finished product more.

If you're handy, the best option I believe is making one that exactly meets your needs.

40+ years ago I made mine, the frame constructed of angle iron. The top was constructed of 1" thick plywood and bolt to the angle iron. With the shelving I build to house components the bench was heavy enough for sizing cases. Still using it today.

Sorry - I can't post pictures.

Not cheap (need 2), but solid. Build an appropriate tabletop using 2 x 4's on edge - glue and screw. 30" deep tabletop requires 20 ea 2 x 4's x required length. Or 2 x 4's in a hatch cover style topped with 3/4" plywood. Rugged enough to handle anything you might need

This portable workbench https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088NDZC9L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
works remarkably well. Very solid. Very stable. And with the benefit of being able to be folded up and stored, taking up minimal space, if desired.

I did one like the above myself, sizing 338L on it without a problem. I'm near sold on a small, "portable" reloading bench for starters and friends, only one set of components fit, and it attracts less clutter. Bonus is the ability to transport to range and load develop on the spot.

Of course, I'll keep my Hornady LnL AP too...

I’m not sure what shipping would be but I could build you a mini version of this that would bolt together to fit your hole and you could put the top of your choice on it. This one is welded together but I’ve built several for friends that bolted together so they could get them inside thr house.
