small neck into no turn neck - possible?

This past winter I picked up a like new 22x47 barrel from a member here.
I stopped by Peterson Brass and grabbed 250pcs of their new 6x47Lapua brass and quickly made a dummy round that a promptly stuck in the chamber.

I consulted the previous owner and he then let me know that he had been turning the necks to ####...whatever it is.

I don't currently neck turn anything, and I don't really want to.
Is it possible to ream just the neck of the chamber? If so, can it be done by hand?

If I have to ship it off to a gun smith I may as well have a reamer made to match my dummy rounds and get a barrel that I want.

Thanks for your advice.

I have a neck reamer for a 6mm that has a pilot on it just like a chamber reamer. I dont like using it but careful guidance by a borescope i can make any 6mm ctg a .273nk. It came in handy a few times instead of getting new reamers made because a guy doesnt like to turn necks. You could get ptg to make you one into whatever size youll need for those necked down necks if you measure it out right. They may even have one in stock because its pretty popular right now with the 22cal wildcats that are in right now

Ross if you have never turned necks, it is really no big deal and you only have to do it once, if done properly.

On the other hand, I am not a big fan of having to turn myself. The few rifles I have to turn though are a pure pleasure to shoot and almost boringly accurate, for me any way. I will say it is well worth the effort on a good barrel and good chamber.

I believe there may be folks here that will do that as a service for a reasonable fee if you don’t want to do it yourself.
I would weigh the cost one against the other if I were in your place.
Good luck how ever you go.

@JSH My concern with neck turning is that I'd be using this gun for Highpower competition. And in rapids this brass is going to get flung out onto the ground (rocks and concrete where I shoot)....so pristine thin necks get beat up more easily.

Thanks for the info everyone.....the consensus is as I expected.
Thanks for your posts and PM's

You could try a uni-necker, but its kinda spendy for one barrel.

If it works as well as a uni-throater, you would be good to go.

Hope this is useful,

Frank

I decided to get a neck turning tool and try the barrel as is.... I'll just do a few pieces of brass to start with.

Thanks again for all your feedback.
