SmalBore, F open Class

I'm looking for info on smallbore fclass open. I currently shoot Fopen highpower , HM
what i'm looking for is what is a GOOD rifle to get. other items i need that I would not have for
1000yd fclass. I use a Farley rest so i think that will do for smallbore.
I live in N.E. Pa. there are a few local clubs that hold matches.
also where to find the rules. plus anything anyone thinks is going to get me on the right track.
Thanks, Ken

Ken I think as far as rules they are pretty much the same for your equipment as they are for hp/open.The things that will keep you on the right track is buy good stuff and cry once.

The one option to get a new, competitive rifle shipped immediately is an anshutz 54 in a br50 or u6/7 stock.
Anshutz NA has a selection.

Other than that it's custom order or used custom. Many rifles on the market as benchrest should work fine for f-open. Maybe your hp rifle maker would make a matching smallbore?

One strange quirk in the rules is that the smallbore f-open weight limit is 18 pounds like f-tr rather than 22 like for hp f-open. Plenty of weight for a 22lr but it does cause a problem for exactly matching hp and sbr rifles.

Section 23 in the nra smallbore rule book is f-class. ASSA also has a set of rules on the internet. I don't recall any meaningful differences off hand.

I think fixed power scopes and slightly lower powered(ie weaver 36x) are a more feasible option in smallbore since there isn't much 'condition' to adjust around at 50 and 100 yards.

The weight rule for Open has been revised in both NRA and ASSA rule book and the Open rifle can now weigh 22lbs..

Ken if you are in PA you need to contact ASSA "american smallbore shooters association" https://www.americansmallbore.com/ They are also headquartered in PA!

There's quite a lot of matches in PA. Areas around.... Palmyra (Hershey area), Wilkes Barre (a couple ranges), Sieztland(almost MD border), Delmont (west of Pittsburgh).

We also have Matches in NJ at the Cumberland Riflemen Club in Cumberland County.

I will post the schedule once it is posted.

thanks a lot for all the info. I think i'm going with the Anshutz
Rifle with the BR stock to start. If the stock don't fit i'll get Carl Bernoski
to make me a stock like my Fopen rifles.
This evening I'm going to a local range where they shoot 25yds indoors.
Just to look over equiptment and techniques .

I touch the stock minimally and love my 1913 -U7

If you want the stock to 'fit' you'd probably prefer the -U2
I'm 99% sure that butt is adjustable so length and drop should be no problem.

The target are quite a bit smaller on fclass smallbore, make sure the equipment and ammo you get is very accurate and consistent. It a very difficult target @ 50yds

Also be prepared to learn the smallbore way of doing things.
Walk down, clip on your targets plus a 'crossfire detector' backer. Repeat for each stage.
No spotter disks so you really want a spotting scope to be able to see 22 holes in black at 100 yards even if visual conditions are poor.

Also the round count can be very high compared to highpower.

Do you know who to talk to about it at Palmyra? I don’t see anything on their website.
