slug gun

I did get the Savage 220 (20 gauge) version. I really like it, it shoots the Remington accutips really well. I just checked the zero the other day and shot two shots that were touching at 100 yds. I mostly hunt with a rifle but have a few areas that only allow a shotgun, I like this Savage better than my 870 with a rifled barrel.

My dad just bought the 20 gauge model savage bolt action slug gun last week. Deer season started this weekend here in IL and he killed a 5 point buck with it yesterday. He had a remington 870 pump slug gun with a thumb hole stock and he hated the stock. I talked him into buying the savage because of all the reviews I read about it. We shot 5 boxes of remington accutips last week. Its hands down more accurate than my winchester 1300 pump slug gun and my brother remington 870 pump slug gun. It took 6 slugs to zero it at 50 yards. At 50 yards you can shoot 5 slugs in 1 hole. At 100 yards you can shoot 5 slugs almost all touching (with a nice bench im sure they would all touch!) Clay birds hanging on the side of a hay bail at 150 yards explode every shoot needless to say!!! I am now a 20 gauge slug fan. Those lighter smaller diameter 20 gauge slugs shoot just as fast as those bigger heavier 12 gauge slugs. Plus I shot many slugs in 1 hour and my shoulder never got sore. With a 12 gauge you would be sore and bruised! Very fun gun to shoot!

Seems like most of the guys that I've talked to who have them say that approx. 225 yds is max for them. Don

They will drive tacks. Mine shot the hornady very well. Well under an inch. Now the down side, its like getting hit with a sledgehammer in the shoulder. I shoot .338s .444s all sorts of other big calibers, and muzzleloaders with no problems. that thing is the most evil kicking @$$ I've touched off. I ended up melting wheel weights and pouring it into the Tupperware stock to calm it down.

Try the 12 gauge. Shoots very well. Holes touching at 100yds (granted, they are big holes).

Kicks like a Mule on Meth'.

On the plus side, everything else feels like a .22lr after shooting one.
