Slowest twist for 308 150/155 FMJBT bullet ?

What is the slowest twist suitable for a 30 caliber 150 or 155 grain FMJBT at muzzle velocities in the 2,000 fps range and distances up to 300 yards ?

Not for competition or hunting. Just plinking.

With 150 FMJ’s and Sierra 2155’s, a 1/13 will definitely work well, maybe even a 1/14. With newer 155 designs twists slower than 1/12 are definitely giving up some BC, but accuracy should still be good. No real advantage to the slower twist. I’d do a 1/12.

JBM calculators has a bullet length list. If you pick a 30 cal
150 gr Sierra, it will give you a 1.110" length. Then just punch
that in with your anticipated speed and it will show about 1.3
for a 15 twist barrel for 2800 fps. I would consider this to be
minimum and would opt for a 14 twist. JBM is online and free
for getting ball parked.
