slow twist .308 cal sporter

Does anyone stock slow twist .308 caliber sporter contour bbls? 10 and 11 twist seem to be the norm.

Bullets.com has a Bartlein 12-twist .299"/.308" barrel listed, and a couple in 17-twist. Southern Precision has a couple Krieger 17-twist barrels.

Shilen offers these:

- 7" * for heavy VLD bullets and/or subsonic ammo.
- 8" for bullets heavier than 220 gr.
- 8" Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 10" for bullets up to 220 gr.
- 10" * Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 12" for bullets up to 170 gr.
- 13" * Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 14" * for bullets up to 168gr.
- 15" * for bullets up to 150 gr.
- 17" * for bullets up to 125 gr.

They will contour to any of their listed contours. My Grandson has a 15twist for his 30BR Mod 7 Remington hunting rifle. It is in a #3 contour.

That's what I'm after too Butch. I have a SS Mdl 7 in .308 that I'm putting on the chopping block to turn into a all purpose 30br or brx repeater with a 21" mag sporter profile bbl. I'm tossing around the option of shooting 150gr fb hunting bullets , but plan on shooting the 130gr Hornady sp.

Can someone tell me if a 17 twist 3G Lilja bbl will stabilize the 130 gr flat back sp, or is that asking to much? Butch, does your Grandsons rifle function as a repeater with no extra work?

Sorry I don't have more photos. Billy Stevens chambered the Shilen barrel, Jewell trigger, and a Brown Precision stock. I modified the magazine according to the article on Mike Bryant's website.
We use 125grain bullets in it. Haven't needed to check any more in it.

I have a 20",.308, 1:12, 5C, barrel on a model 7 Remington. It has been shot approx. 900 times. It does not shoot nearly as well as my .308 in 1:11.27 and 1:10.
