Sling shooter Any/Any question on hold off

I am a Palma and XTC shooter. I put a Vortex Golden Eagle on my 6XC tube gun and want to shoot it in the Any/Any class at an upcoming match. I have only ever shot irons in long range, and wonder if people hold off or dial for wind?

Mike,
6 of one, half dozen of the other. It's personal preference. For me it is largely dictated by conditions. If it's very switchy, hold off and wait for the condition to return and get the shot off as quickly as possible. If the velocity or direction changes and remains somewhat constant for more than a couple of minutes, click it.

Depends on the scope and my level of confidence with it. typically, I will hold off out to the 9 ring and adjust if it is more than that. Something in my head has a problem pulling the trigger with the cross hair in the 9 ring. I shoot enough of them on my own.:(:(:(

Been beaten (often) by mgdietrich. So his comments are high value.

I like holding off with the scope, the knobs on a scope aren't as easy to reach as with irons, helps me shoot faster and keep up with conditions

I have very limited experience shooting a scope on a match rifle. I typically shoot a Palma rifle at MR and LR. But what little I’ve done, I found quickly that part of the advantage is shading/holding off. Let’s you break the shot for the wind and quickly. Not as easy with the service rifle scope, but easier than with irons. The biggest comfort was using the scoring lines and knowing how large off I’m holding. I did shoot a few strings where I used the knobs and never had any issues, but it just felt slower.

I us a combination of both methods. For subtle changes I hold off. For major shifts, I click and or wait them out.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I will hold off side to side in the X ring / tight 10 but more than that I dial it. If you start steering you start seeing corners and I am not going to adjust NPA each shot to hold off. Just my personal preference, YMMV.

I prefer holding off but have found that sometimes I am not careful with adjusting my NPA and I get erratic shots. I first learned this shooting smallbore prone with a scope. If you use muscle to push the sights rather than adjusting NPOA up jumps the devil.

On paper I hold off. I like to hammer my rounds down range as fast as I can possibly fire them. As you get better with your new scope you can choose what you like to do.

I like looking at the flags then back on the scope hold off and fire. It is much faster than make a call dial it in and then either say screw it and fire hoping they are the same or holding until they are the same.

I hold off unless there is a big change in wind that has lasted for several minutes. I don't like clicking because you risk losing track of the clicks especially for large windage change from zero. And I don't trust the tracking of my scopes.
