Sleeved Barrel like an AR-15 on bolt gun format

Has anyone ever talked about the concept of using the sleeved barrel and chamber with a barrel nut on a bolt gun?

Maybe a Tubb T2000, or an Elisio tube gun? There may be others but I am not all that familiar with how they are exactly put together.

Yes, I knew about the Tubb, and that is very cool.

How come no one ahs adopted this format for a "regular" bench bolt gun. I mean the barrel changing capability is the best!!! The chamber head space goes with the barrel becuase the lugs are in the barrel. Way better system I think than the threaded barrels.

I see what you are getting at, but whether the locking lug abutments are in the receiver or in the barrel, competent and repeatable machine work is still required. With the AR type barrel extension you can pretty much plug and play, but it's still a very good idea to check headspace if you use a bolt head that was not matched to the barrel when it was made. As was discussed in the thread about pre-fit barrels for custom actions, it's entirely do-able. The thread about the Sauer rifle, I think somebody said the abutments were part of the barrel in that system, and IIRC Barrett does it with their sniper rifles? Either way I think it's 6 or half dozen... perfect machining required. What I would like to see, since we're talking theory here, is a one piece barrel/receiver with an integral picatinny rail for scope mounting. That would eliminate 2 or 3 joints and potential places for a POI shift.

The trend has been toward shorter receiver length actions. WSM and WSSM are making inroads on standard belted magnums. XL super-mag ctgs are notable exceptions for extra longrange capabilities...

That said, the threaded receiver and barrel remain most compact/short oal solution to manually manipulated action design. In England, there are some shooters who modify AR-15 receivers to pull-bolt operation since they aren't permitted to own AR in semi-auto configuration. Savage 110 design uses a barrel collar which enables switchbarreling.

No real reason to change what already works. Takes longer to switch a barrel on an AR-15 than it does to swap barrels on a Win 70 or Sako action w/integral recoil lug. Doesn't take a special barrel-nut wrench, just a receiver wrench and barrel vise. Float tube is an idea that works, as is the action skeleton-frame stock design of Sako TRG-42 and Accuracy Intl rifles.

Not if there is no gas system... The AR barrel nut is the fastest change out by far if they is no gas tube to line up.

All of the gunsmithing goes with the barrel, it is not gun dependant at all....

The Savage system is pretty fast to change tubes. Just buy a prefit tube and a headspace gauge. Then it is super easy to change the tube out.

Accuracy international is setup for user swapable barrels. Kind of like how the tubb is setup.
