sizing lube....

i ran out of sizing lube today, and was wondering if i could just coat the dies,,expander ball) with moly? would this work in place of the sizing lube?? or would this become problem-matic, and end up in a stuck case??

Baby oil will work if you have it. Buy 2 tins of Sizing die wax from Redding and you'll never run out again...

I just started using the redding imperial sizing wax and really really like it. Two tins is what I would buy too. Jst like preacher said!!!!!!!!!

Preacher's on target!

I'm just about done with the first tin of Imperial I bought back in 2005. New can of Redding-brand,same exact stuff) is waiting on the shelf.

Nothing comes close to being as easy, or as economical.

I really like Hornady One Shot spray lube. No mess at all and it is really fast to lube a bunch of cases and do the inside of the neck at the same time. I always keep two or three cans on the shelf.
I have heard of people using cooking oil and PAM spray nonstick, wire pulling lube, even KY Jelly.

+1 on the One Shot lube. I have and use both Imperial Wax,which I love) but it's WAY slower to use than the One Shot. I just line up about 100 or so cases side by side on a strip of 2X4 streched between two benches and give the shells a liberal dose of One Shot from both sides. 20 seconds and I've lubed 100 shells !

I use redding sizing wax and I apply it with Qtips. I leave the residue on the outside of the neck, but I use a Qtip to remove in from inside the neck.
I use the spray stuff if I am full-length sizing it is just simpler to use for that.

Aitch;

Most people just swipe their finger/s across the can of sizing wax and run the shells around in their fingers for a second or two. You can usually do from 3 to 5 shells with the thin coat of wax that you need before repeating the process.

As far as the One Shot goes, I haven't found any down side yet and I've tried MANY different types of lubes; from the old "ink pad" types to Midway's brand to Lyman and everything between. The One Shot is an emulsified wax too! It won't hurt the powder or primers but I always tumble it off before charging anyway.

The little can of Sinclair/ Hornady wax will last a LONG time. You only need minute amounts, but it's slow to apply and I worry about picking up debris with the waxy fingers and introducing it into my sizing die. You just have to be careful.

The spray-on case lubes are probably the best thing to happen to reloading in years. You can make your own spray case sizing lube in bulk by mixing liquid lanolin and 99% isopropyl alcohol. A solution of 1 part liquid lanolin and 4 to 5 parts parts 99 percent isopropyl alcohol,4 oz of liquid lanolin to16 - 20 oz of isopropyl) works well. When mixing you may find that the lanolin mixes better if you warm both the alcohol and lanolin in a bath of warm water to about 105 - 110 degrees F before mixing. DO NOT WARM EITHER OF THEM OVER AN OPEN FLAME! Once the solutions are warm, pour together, mix thoroughly, allow the mix to cool,mix occasionally as it cools) and store in an air tight container to prevent water from being absorbed by the isopropyl. Put mixture into an ordinary spray bottle. To apply the lube, spread the cases in a single layer on a clean surface and spray. Allow the cases to sit for a couple of minutes, roll the cases around and lightly spray again. Wait until the alcohol has evaporated,about 5 minutes) and start sizing. Properly lubed cases will have a slightly greasy feel to them without feeling slimy.

Very similar to Dillons spray lube.
