sizing 223 brass ?

You answered your own question :)
I use a press that has a hard stop, no cam over.
If your setup is oversizing try a different die, shell holder, or a slotted shim between shell holder and die.

You do need a way to stop sizing at the same place for each piece of brass.
Cam over needs hard dimensions with holder/die.
A hard stop press needs to be adjusted :just right:.

I just got a small base die so's I could get a little more on the body without messing with the shoulders. I haven't had a problem yet, but I'm just thinking about using bastard brass for cheap bullets and steel banging. jd

The bump gauge measurements should dictate the die setting. If you can achieve the optimum sizing without cam over, then there is no need to cam over.

I have to cam over to achieve optimum sizing because my press is 50+ years old and there is a lot of play in it.

If I cam over my base to shoulder measurement is too small
In my experience, using light cam over results in the most consistent case head to datum measurements.

Standard shell holders are 0.125 inches deep. How deep is your shell holder? If it is less than 0.125 inches deep, your base to shoulder measurement will likely be too small.

Redding Competition Shell Holders are made for the situation you describe. They are a set of five in 0.002 inch increments. For example, the plus 0.002 shell holder is 0.127 inches deep, etc.
