This topic comes up every couple of months or so. I agree with what you are saying, but this thread will just be an echo chamber of like-minded individuals (paying members).

People are motivated by self interest. As long as non-paying members are allowed the access to the classifieds that they have now, nothing will change. Altruism is not a common virtue, unfortunately.

To the earlier points made, however, we can always choose who we decide to do business with. That's about all we can do to support "the cause" in our own small way until the rules change.

Be careful demonizing folks who are following the rules. Constantly guilt tripping them isn't an effective way to get them to sign up as a site supporter. If people find value and their finances allow, hopefully they sign up.

I don't disagree, the point I was trying to put out there is for anyone wishing to post items for sale to kindly consider donating to help with the costs of running the site.
I enjoy all of the content on this site and wish for it's continued success.
I'm not trying to bash on anyone, just trying to shake the cup and ask for consideration of a donation.

Are people really THAT motivated by classifieds? Maybe so.

Not in this thread, but we’ve all seen posts about site donation that border on harsh shaming. It’s easy to assume “If so-n-so has money to shoot he/she is being selfish by not donating”. Brothers I assure you there are plenty of folks here who are down and out, have no discretionary income and find this site as a relief from an otherwise desperate daily struggle. Those people aren’t shooting but they want to stay active in the community. I was one such member during the crash of 2008. It sucked.

If you can send a few bucks: do so. Let’s all agree that a colored banner by our name isn’t meant to be another form of virtue signalling.

Non paying members are only allowed three ads a year, no matter if the items sell or not. I've posted four different PIF items in the last year, but only paying members were allowed to claim them.

In life, there tend to be two kinds of people: there are lifters and there are leaners. Lifters carry the burden for themselves and others… they take on more accountability than the average person, and they don't rely on anyone else to make things happen. And leaners are happy to let them do so!

FYI, I paid for silver memberships for two people that are on this forum a LOT...... when the year ran out, they did not renew. These same folks are buying primers by the case (5000), it's not that they cannot afford to contribute, they have made a conscience decision to not lift.

This is because site membership revenue has not kept pace with cost increases for site servers, email, and security systems.

Regarding that price, one would pay $30.50 for a single $600 sale on Gunbroker -- that's ONE $600 item. SEE:



And a popular Tactical Forum now currently charges $20 per MONTH for Classifieds sales privileges. Yes, on that Forum you must pay $20 each month to sell (that adds up to $240 per year).

There in lies the problem. It’s not free! It costs hard currency to run this site. The Boss does a great job of keeping adds to a minimum instead of allowing those irritating Pop Up Adds to infest my screen. I appreciate that and donate to help keep things running. The bottom line is: Help the site or the site will die!
My personal opinion: Charge for every sale add.
A while back, Sniper’s Hide started charging for sale adds and I noticed an increase of guns being offered for sale here. 99% were by unsupporting members. A LOT of them didn’t even post in the conversation sections to share or help others. They were/ are here only to sell their stuff for free! I think that’s userus and wrong.
