Sinclair Chamber Length Gage question

So I got the Sinclair Chamber Length Gage for my rifles. I followed instructions and measured the chambers for my GAP-10 in 308 and my Rem 700 in 30-06.

The GAP-10 measured 2.041 and the Rem 700 measured 2.529.

My question is, how much should I subtract from these measurements to get my new trim-to length? The instructions say 0.024 but that seems conservative to me.

What say you?

I wouldn't trim with either of them, not new brass. Those chambers are plenty long, you may never have to trim. If you do, keep your brass about .010" shorter than the chamber you'll be fine.

Cool. It's gonna be a while before this brass gets to where I'll need to trim it. I may never have to trim my 308 brass.

as long as ALL brass is the same length you may never need to trim to keep them shorter than the chamber. if some cases are .005 longer than others, you might develop a carbon ring with shorter cases then chamber the longer ones and run the risk of crimping the necks. long gaps from case mouth to end of the chamber tend to build up a carbon ring and as has been mentioned it is a b__ch to get out.
