Simmons Scopes

I've got to write this, because it's true. I've got a Remington 721 with a Simmons 6-20x40 scope on it. The barrel is a Remmy take-off in .308, and I put a Jewell trigger on it. Awhile back, I went to qualify at 1,000 yards at Bayou Rifles, and my target rifle's high-dollar scope didn't have enough vertical, so I grabbed my 22" barrelled Remington, circa 1954, original drop-comb stock. Simmons scope had plenty of elevation, and I qualified without a problem, shooting Berger 185's. Last shot was an "X" on the F-class target. Fast forward to today, and I got a new Simmons 6.5-20x50, recently on sale for $90 after a $20 rebate. Put it on my Winchester SuperGrade .30-'06 with a Lilja barrel. One boresight shot at 25 yards was in line and 1.25" low. Shot 3 at 100, which were touching. Then I moved the knobs 2 clicks up and 6 clicks right (the 3 shots were 1/2" low and 1.5" left), and shot 5 shots at a .75" highpower paster. All 5 shots hit the paster, and the group was about 0.8". It might have been better, but the 1" reticle covered the aiming point. I'm ready to hunt.

I recently bought a Winchester Model 70 in 222. It had a Simmons 6.5x20 Presidential scope on it. Says Japan on the bottom so I figure its old. After a few range trips, I figured out the scope was the problem with crappy groups. I called Simmons/Bushnell and they said sent it in and the will fix it. I know some would just thrown it away but I figured for $10 and a few minutes of my time, what did I have to loose. Either way, I either get a repaired scope or a new one for $10 bucks.

I have used a couple of the old made in Japan Simmons target scopes with excellent results! Glass is very good for the price point.

Pyscodog, that's good news, however it turns out, much better than my experience with Tasco, which refused to honor the lifetime warranty on a NIB scope that malfunctioned after the first shot on the first and only rifle was ever mounted on. The reason? it was made a month or 2 before the current owner acquired Tasco (in 1998 or 1999). They offered me a "deal" on the current scope equivalent to the one I had, but I passed -I work part time for a dealer, and could get it, including shipping and sales tax, for a lot less than their "deal". Good to know that there are outfits in the lower end scope market that back that will service their products.

We have Simmons scopes in our household but no more Tascos.

The Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20 x50 is an excellent value @ <$100.00 IMHO.

I used one on a .338 Lapua to work up a load while waiting for the SWFA(Super Black Friday Deal on backorder). It now resides on a Savage .22 I use to train my kids with @ 200yds. They are learning to read/scale the Mil-Dots.

My experience is only with the Simmons Whitetail Classic & Aetec scopes manufactured in the Philippines. Both were positive.
