Any silhouette shooters on here? I understand there is probably sites dedicated to just that. I never seen anything on here so don’t know if it’s taboo lol

It’s a shame that it is on the decline. I have only shot a match or two in high power and not much more in small bore. It is fun..humbling...but fun. It is probably the cheapest way to break into competitive shooting. Not much in the way of equipment. We have a local range here about an hour and a half south of Dallas that is first class. They still shoot here. Been toying with the ideal of shooting another one.
Shot smallbore silhouettes for years and years out of Signal Point, Guntersville, Al; Magic City and Steel City out of Birmingham. High Power Silhouettes at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Al where they would provide--yes, free of charge--Lake City Match .308. In those days it was show up with your rifle and shoot. Interest waned here and it just died on the vine. Nothing beats the simple elegance of the sport or the thrill of watching the metallic silhouette fall when you hit it. Now shooting F-Class everything I need just barely fits in the damn truck.
It's not fast paced like 3-gun. It's not 'tactical' like PRS. It's really difficult, and there's not a real central place to find out good info on competitions or ranges. Both of those things make it tough to keep new shooters is what I keep hearing. The range in Coolidge (south of Dallas) is nice, and that's where the TX High Power match was last weekend. But, there were onlyt match I shot there 24 of us shooting both days.
I think that most of the ranges and match directors would be open to suggestions to get and keep new shooters. Steel Chicken's is difficult to get access to if anyone tries to sign up...fyi. I think that the webmaster might be a sometimes webmaster.
We have some local matches here, and I've wanted to give it a try, but the closest thing to an appropriate rifle that I have is an M1A (with irons). Would that be a waste of time? A new rifle isn't in the budget at this point.

don't worry,,I win the lotto we'll build our own range,,on Mars,,longrange,,Its a rather secret society. Hard to find info and sometimes hard to even get in a match. Ive pulled up to matches where guys told me they wasnt having one that day and shot complete matches without anybody saying a word to me. Wish it was a lot more welcoming because i love doing it and have a lot of money invested in it
