sightron threaded lense cover

vano: The lens covers that came with my 10-50x 60mm S111 gave new meaning to the term "made in China". The eyepiece cover would not even fit, too small. Butler Creek does make a size that fits the objective, but their 2 nearest diameters for the eyepiece are either too small or too large. No threads on the eyepiece so screw-on not an option. Even my cheap ($250 Leupold scopes) are available with screw-on caps for $20 a pair.

i was able to mount the eyepiece by rolling back the soft rubber that fits over the tube then putting the lense cover up to the eyepiece and then rolling it out over the tube
these are a joke on a benchrest scope. yes for hunting, but on a 10X50 $900.00 bench scope unblieveable. no sunshade or threaded lense cover. but i still bought the scope, so the jokes on me.

I backed away from the SIII as it does not have 1/8 moa clicks. Seems strange to sell a scope intended for targets having 1/4 moa. In any case I got the SII Big Sky. Came with slip on lens covers, which are ok, and a screw in sunshade is included. Made in Japan. Sightron seem to have made some basic mistakes with the SIII.

I have the S3 8-32x56, and yes the factory flip-ups suck. I used a #51 obj and I thought there was afew more sizes bigger in the sinclair book. For the ocular end (kinda ghetto) I had a couple ocular flip-ups, not sure what size, that where just a touch too big. After I set focus, I never need to change the focus after initial set-up, I put a layer or three of black tape on it and the butler creek fit nice and snug. The width of the tape is a little wider then what the BC flip-up covers so just cut the width of the tape down and it won't even show.

The 10x50x60 has 1/8 Min clicks and one revolution = 10 minutes 8) not 15 like the 8x32.

what does leupold offer in a 10-50x60 for 900 bucks with lense covers, oh yeah, nothing. you could get a 8.5-25x50 leupold for under 1400 bucks though ;D and lense covers. cliffe

cliffe: I'm not interested in the higher end Leupolds: my Nightforce's ( 2, 12-42xBR and 1, 8-32xBR) do everything I need. In side-by-side comparisons between the S111 and the NF's I found other issues besides the non lens caps, so it was sold. I'm not knocking the Sightron's, I understand there are many who are perfectly satisfied with theirs, and I did find some positive high points with the one I had.

I just got an SIII 8-32X, and yea, those lens covers look so cheap it is pathetic. I put them on anyway, and surprisingly enough, they actually work really good. They might not last long though. Time will tell.

So far I'm delighted with the scope. Optically it is excellent. The parallax is a little senstive, but once dialed in there is no parallax at all. It is honking big, but then all of them are in that power range. I bought the mil dot only because the fine cross hair was too fine for my eyes and I liked the .07 inch crosshair (at max power) better than the .125 inch dot.

fdshuster: the sightron are alot of scope for the money, compared one of my 8x32's to a 8.5x25 leupold mk4 and optically they were about the same, but i liked the milrad recticle in the leupold better, but for 300-400 less i'll take the sightron and cheezy lense caps.
the nightforce scopes are no doubt nice... maybe when i win the lottery.... cliffe

I bought a set of leather covers for my 8-32X56 SIII that slide over the lenses. They work really well. Unfortunately, the gentleman who made them, has closed his business for health reasons. I sure hope someone else recognizes the opportunity and offers them. I would like a set for my 45X45 SIII ED.
