Sightron STAC 4-20x50

My STAC 4-20x50 just arrived. Without shoot testing it, i can see that it is a very well built scope. Very clear and love the moa reticle. The elevation/windage turrets are not as nice or as solidly built as my Leupolds. As expected for 334.00 I think it's an incredible value. Look forward to the range testing

I am looking forward to your evaluation of this scope. I am thinking of putting one on a 300WM hunting rifle.

I have this scope, and the SIII. It holds zero well. It does not have the optical clearity of the SIII. after about 200yards the parellax does not focus any more fine.

I heard that it's not the quality glass of the III but also heard it's easily as clear and quality is as good as any Leupold VXIII. I'll can't verify this as I haven't been on the range yet with it. I'm a huge Leupold fan so that's to me a tall order to fill. I shoot mark4 scopes and don't think my STAC will run with Mark 4. We'll see.

Well, I shot it. Tested it on my 308 since my new build isn't ready yet. It tracks perfectly. Returns to zero perfectly and is very clear out to 600 yards ( home range). Was warm so had a little mirage and did great. Took it out to a field and glassed ranges beyond 1000 yards and it's very clear and glass quality is on par with my VXIII glass. Not quite a nice as Mark IV glass. At 600 yards managed .6 moa. Did the same with my Mark IV on the same gun. At 343.00, its easily the quality of a scope 2-3 times it's pricing. It will go afield this November for some 600-800 yard deer hunting. I'll return results and hopefully pics.

Once again at the range with my STAC 4-20. 20 mph winds so wanted to see how well the moa reticle was for wind and actual accuracy in that wind. At 500 yards my kestrel said 16.7(full value) mph wind. Shooting 308/175 smk. My data shows just under 6moa wind hold at 500. I used my #6 reticle hashmark and 5 Rds hit steel at 500. Groups not impressive as only 6moa with inconsistent winds but my load development needs improvement as my 100 yard groups were about 1 moa. Point is, the reticle IS accurate for moa measurement. Used my 10 moa hashmark in elevation also for 500 yards and it was again, spot on. Hits on the same steel were solid. Again groups not so much. 8" plate and groups were all of 6"+. On days with no wind, that's actually a very big plate. Wind was the main reason for shooting with this scope. Had a couple other guys at the range try the scope and they too were very impressed with it. One of them ordering the same model when he arrived home from the range. I'm heading out again today with some different seat depth loads for accuracy. Winds down today and looks good for load work. Actually looking at the 3-16x42 S-TAC for this 308. 20x not necessary for this gun. The 4-20 will go on a 284 I'm building as the 20x will be more useful for that longer range gun. So far no disappointments in the Sightron S-TAC.

I have this mounted on a 204. It has the duplex reticle, I'm using it as a coyote rifle. Mine tracks great, returns to zero, glass as good as most of the better scopes I've looked through. Has a 30mm tube, and for the money, couldn't have made a better choice in my opinion.
