Sightron SIII info needed

Sightron advertises their SIII 6-24x50, 30mm tube to have 50moa elevation adjustment. When the manufacturer says so much moa adjustment do they mean from center of the adjustment range [with the reticle centered]?

Wyo

50 MOA should be total adjustment. Typically, scope makers list the total adjustment from bottom to top.
From mechanical center around 25 MOA.
If I'm right, that's kinda skimpy for a 30mm tubed scope.
I think the S3 is overpriced.

The Sightron S2 and a 20 MOA rail is a better buy, IMO.
Also, Sightron is coming out with the Big Sky series soon.
Supposed to improve an already good scope.

CHEAPTRICK,
I thought that the big sky scope were already out? Are they not out yet? The specs on them look decent and price ain't bad either.

They are finally starting to trickle in some now, but NOT really what you would call "in abundance".
One place I called had the lower power units, but no higher power models in the Big Sky series.
Yeah, should be a great scope for the money!!

I ordered my SIII from "Discovery Optics". Really nice glass. Don't have my rifle yet [work in progress]. It's frustrating having a new toy yet you can't play with it.

I back ordered one of the SIII Big Sky 24x from Midway. I guess it will get here when it arrives on my doorstep.

I thought that the Big Sky unti was limited to the S2 line of scopes?
I may be wrong of course...

I just received a Sightron Sl 3.5 X 10 50mm. objective for a walkaround .223 Handi Rifle. Discovery Optics prices are very good for Sightrons. I have several Sightrons on various rifles including a Slll 6 X 24 30mm. side focus on a 6mm BR that I'm very happy with.

Chino69, what do you use your 6mm BR for? A bench gun? In other words, I'm interested in what application your using your SIII scope for on this gun. Tell me what you think of the quality of this scope [good points, bad points]. I purchased mine to use on a .243 varmint rifle that I may wish to shoot at targets at 600yds plus. I thought it might be comparable to Leupold's offerings in the $800.00-$900.00 range. I've heard/read some good things about Sightrons.

I use my 6mm BR for informal bench and live varmints. By informal bench I mean I like to shoot as accurately as I can afford to but not competition. My 6mm Br has shot 5 shot groups @200 meters in the low to mid .1's on a good no wind day. The Sightron reticle is the dot and works pretty well at centering on a 1/2" bright red flourescent dot @200 meters. The reticle is easy to center on the red with enough red showing around the periphery of the reticle. The Sightron, in my opinion, is a good scope for the money. The resolution is good but not excellent as in a Leupold VXlll but plenty good for my purposes. My eyes are not as good as they used to be so without some means of comparing optical resolution, my opinion is subjective. Your reasoning that this scope would be comparable to Leupold's offering in the $800 to $900 price range is the reason I bought this scope and must admit that I am not disappointed. I'll qualify that last sentence by saying it is not a Leupold but it's not far behind and if you can live with that small difference, it's a good scope for the money. It tracks well, the clicks are distinct and the side focus works very well. The scope is well made, comes with a sunshade and is the first dot I've owned. I've shot out to 300 meters with no problem and haven't gone past that but I will in the next couple of weeks. My 6mm BR is a 1-14" Hart light varmint contour on a Rem. 40X single shot with trued action, sleeved bolt, Rifle Basix trigger and HS Precision stock.
