Sightron scopes

I own 2 and have the third on order. I have a SIII Big SKY I think it is a 6-24 on a varmint gun and a 8-32 SIII on my bench rifle. I have a 10-50X60 SIII on order. I am old and my eyes are not very good any more so my review is somewhat limited. I feel for the money that they are clear and rugged. I cannot compare to Leupold's but I find them a great value for the dollar. Their lifetime warranty and customer service are great although I have never had to use either. I do not think you will be dissatisfied. The only down side I see with Sightron is the somewhat limited reticle availability.

I bought a used SIII from this forum and it wouldn't hold a zero. Sightron fixed it without question. Great service, no charges.

I was just in the market for a new scope for a New long Range rifle build. I looked pretty hard at Sightron. At a match last month I was able to fire a few shots with one of there 10-50X60 scopes. The optics are fine and just as clear as my nightForce NXS. In the end I purchased a NightForce BenchRest scope but only because of the riticle choice with Sightron. As a Bench Rest shooter I was pretty limited in the Sightron to there FCH. NighForce just offered me a better choice. Other than that I don't believe you give anything away with a Sightron.

I started bench rest shooting ( 600 and 1000yd) a couple years ago on a budget.
I built my own gun from a Savage PTA and a Shilen pre-fit barrel along with a used stock.
I bought a used Sightron SII 6-24 scope on ebay that had a problem with paralax. Sent it to Sightron, explained the symptoms it had and they fixed it no problem.
I have had no problem with the Sightron. I did replace it with a NF but only in an attempt to eliminate excuses! I will keep the sightron as a back-up.
Now, I am replacing the 243 WIN barrel with a proper gunsmith fitted and reamed (with my reamer) 6BRX. Tired of getting beat by 6BR's!

I have both a NF NBR in 12-42 & the SIII in 10-50, love em both.

Magnification/Power needed? If your going to shoot 600 & 1000, which do you see yourself wishing for more often:
  • Wishing you had less than 10x power?
  • Wishing you had more than 32X?
At 600, I have never found myself using less than 25-26x. At 1K, find myself wishing for more at times, but generally mirage conditions find me in the 36-40x.

Your decision..... ;)

I have an 8-32 NXS and a 8-32 Sightron SIII, and have looked through the 12-42 NXS and BR models as well as the Sightron 10-50x60. They're all fine scopes - I think you would be happy with any of them

I love both of my 8-32's, and highly doubt that I'll get rid of either. The one thing I might consider, is a differnt reticle for both (both have FCH's)

You can buy two Sightron's for the price of one NXS... keep that in mind if you have multiple rifles and limited funds.

I would get the 10-50x...you see a lot of 32's for sale and many that buy them wish they had gone up in power and sell them and take a loss. I run mine at 45x generally and love it and optically it's about as nice as my 45X Leupold.

I am an old school kinda guy and don't like a lot of clutter. I ordered the 1/8'' target dot as it also has 1/8'' clicks. My 8-32 had 1/4'' dot and it was a little too big for my liking.

I've had two of the target dot 8-32 SIII and shoot F/O. One broke and was fixed for free with no questions asked. The second one stopped tracking at the last match and will be sent in for repair. The glass is better than my Nightforce scopes but I'm beginning to wonder if they are a better investment overall.

I have 4 Sightrons. The first one is a 6X24 SII with a target dot. One day while putting my gear in the car for a test session at the range My rifle tipped over and fell right on the objective leaving a nasy dent but not breaking the seals or glass. Needless to say it will never accept the sun shade again. Still works flawlessly. Thats been a few years ago now. Then I purchased two 8-32X50 SIII. The glass is really really good and since im not a Benchrest shooter I like the 1/4MOA dot. Its perfecct for me, with 1/4 MOA adjustments as well. Apon owning my first one I was reading alot of comparisons between it and the NXS. True the glass is about equal but in my eyes two difrent scopes... One a tactical rugged throw it out the window and use it afterward scope and the other a Target scope... hence the price. So far no issues at all with the Sightrons but i have to agree with Dave Berg about the clicks. They are too light or not stiff enough. I have picked up my rifle and carried it to the car and turned the knobs with my forearm while moving. And I have over corrected windage because it moved too easy. That is my only complaint. The 4th Sightron came on a used CZ 17HMR its there little 3X9. Nice little fella so far.
Like most I run mine around 23 to 30 for 1000 yard shooting because of the mirage and shooting 20 shot strings.
Wooger your the first person i Have heard of a Sightron stop tracking. I have had two luapolds do it but never a Sightron or Weaver.

I've got two SIII 6x24 LR MOA 2 scopes with the tactical knobs, they're nothing like the old mushy covered knobs, very crisp with no lash at all, the glass is outstanding and personally I prefer the MOA reticle for target hold off.

I have the 10-50x and will be getting another one. Mine is used for F Class and 1000yd BR on my Panda actioned rifle. I do often use it cranked up to 50x, but maybe I got one of the realy good ones. Are some of them not so good???.
I think I remember thinking it did get a tad less clear when cranked all the way up, but now I havent even thought about it and often just crank it up once I,m lined up on the target. I wouldnt get a lower power one as 10X is low enough to help you get lined up on the target, while the ability to use 50X when the conditions allow is a bonus. The clicks are fairly light, but I havent found this to be a problem. If anything, it upsets the rifle less in the bags when I,m adjusting the cross hairs to the bullet impact.

My other scope is a March 10-60X which I also love, but I realy cant tell a huge amount of difference when looking through them. I suppose my March can pick out bullet holes in the taget at longer range (havent realy checked though), but for F class or 1000yd BR, this Isnt an issue. I went with the target dot cross hair as I didnt want lots of clutter.
I,m not sure of how reliable they are with recoil personaly as mine is only used on a 6 Dasher and 6x47.

Gary,

Where did you purchase your scopes at?
Was thinking of getting this one.

Mark,
That's just like mine except for the power range, I'm sure you'll like it
