Sightron Reticles?

For you varminters that have gone with the SIII series, are you hampered much by the lack of a Mildot or varmint style reticle when it comes to windage correction?

I'm sure I'm not the only one wishing Sightron would produce these scopes with more reticle choices.

I quit holding off or trying to use mil-dot shooting P-dogs years ago. You'll shot much better if you know the trajectory of the round your shooting and click your intended target.

I am with RJ never had much holding for wind except for minor last second corrections. But I am not a speed shooter either. Range measure the wind guess the down range winds calculate click and shoot. It has been my experience that hold points for windage are never were you need them. Also most my hunting is in ten mph or less and out to about 700 yards so even one mil is to much hold off for most my shooting unless I am in a full value 8 mph wind at 700. At 500 yards 8 mph I only need 2.15 moa hard to do accurately with a mill dot on something the size of a rat. I have both an 8-32 Sightron with a dot and a 12-42 nightforce with the npr2 and I click for wind with both. I would not hesitate to go with the Sightron in fact I am about to order my third.

Sounds like some great advice. SIII it is.

'Nuther question: 8x32x56 @ $800 or 12x50x60 at $1k ???

Cartridge is 6x47L.
Intended use: long range milk jug busting on the desert and a dog shoot now and then. Oh, and lots of 200 yard work at the range as well.

That’s a hard one that I am pondering myself. I am looking forward to reading some of the reports on the new 10-50 before I buy my next one. I have mixed feelings about the 1/8 clicks on the 10-50 both good and bad. Milk jugs at 1K shouldn’t be any trouble seeing with the 8-32. I have shot a 4” steel swinger at 715. I had both my Sightron 8-32 and my 12-42 nightforce out one day shooting some paper at 400 and honestly I didn’t see much difference. The conditions were good and I could see .224 holes in the white with both. The sight picture comparing 32 to 42 wasn’t that much better on 42 to me. Some yes but very little. Witch ever I buy it will have the 1/8 dot though. The ¼ dots in my Sightron’s now are a little large for small targets at longer ranges.

Nomo4me, As Brian stated get one with the 1/8" dot, it won't obstruct your sight picture or cover up a p-dog at long distance like a larger dot will. I purchased my first 8-32x56 SIII used off this suite and I was so impressed with it's quality that I immediately contacted Larry an order a second one. I also was one of the early folks to get on his waiting list for the new 10-50x60 and I anxiously await it's arrival. If it's anywhere near as good as the 8-32 it will really be hard to get one for awhile until the hype dies down. Did you happen to notice that there's a used 8-32x56 SIII for sale in the classified by "alf" at a very attractive price, these scopes carry a lifetime warranty. You won't be disapointed with the 8-32x56 school's still out on the 10-50x60.

I did grab that scope off the classifieds and enjoyed a great conversation with Alf as well. Saved $90 in the process.

Thanks!

I only have 1 dedictaed Pd rig right now and it's a 17 FB XP-100 handgun. I have a 6-18x Nikon Buckmasters on it with MD reticle. I'm not crazy about a MD reticle that's setup for the mil at the optic's highest power but i chose this optic due to the fact that the mil is cald. for 12x and is 66% of the 3.6 IPHY subtension at 18x (2.4IPHY). The dots basically become 1/2" instead of 3/4ths also. I always run turret for elevation and reticle for windage. I've made some 1st shot connections to ~500 yds. in <10 mph winds using the lowly 25 Horn. HP @ 3400 out of this rig, by applying calcd. windage with the mil-dot. Even if it's not dead on the nose for wind calls it's at least close and can usually be nulled out on the 2nd or 3rd shot with a "good" spotter on hand.

The Sightron MD's are all set up for the optic's highest power...as far as i know.
