sightron 111 10x50x60

have i made a bad decesion i have done alot of research on this sightron 10x50x60 lrtd scope nearly everything i read on this site was positive about it i bought one then happened to look at swfa im nearly sick to say the least hardly any rating hope im not over reacting as ive not received the scope yet any imput good or bad greatly appreciated thanks alan.

Alan: Don't put the cart before the horse. Wait until the scope arrives, live with it for a while, then make a judgement based on what you see, not what someone else thinks. I bought the same scope new, last Summer, and was disappointed in a few areas, ( I much prefer screw-on lens caps, a sunshade included with the original cost, detailed owners manual, etc.), but I found the clarity, tracking, side focus and most other important points to be of high quality. I compared it with one of my 12-42x Nightforce's, and do prefer the NF, so the Sightron was sold, but not because it's not a good scope. More like because I'm just too (?) picky. So, if I were to write a review of that scope it would be a mix of positive and negative comments, all based on my opinions.

I looked through one this spring. I actualy thought it was better (clearer/brighter) than my 8-32 NSX when the Sightron was set around 32X. I wish I had my 12-42 NSX or BR along and compaired them at the higher powers. I was told by a few guys, including the owner of the Sightron, that the biggest complaint was the paralex adjustment was very finicky at the higher powers. I am seriously considering buying one. If it is better it will make front line service. If not, it will be a cheaper alternative than a NF for backup duty.

I own five SIII's, three 8-32's target dots and two 10-50's, one with FCH and one TD. So if ya don't like it ya can always sell it to me.

RJ

I have 2 of them, a 8x32 and a 10x50.
I'll not be selling any one of them any time soon.
I like my NF's better, but cant really fault the Sightrons either for the money they cost...

4xforfun; I find the parallax focus adjustments to be "touchy" at the higher (above about 35x) magnification settings on all my scopes, including the NF benchrest's. I also include the Leupold Competition Series at 40x. I took that into consideration when comparing the Sightron, and at 50x it was really a problem for me. Thought at first it was my eye's, but realize now it's a common problem.

I own 2 Sightron 10 X 50 X 60 both FC w/dot. After talking to HABU on Longrange dot com. I ordered 4 63mm Camera sunshades $8.00 each and screwed them right on my scopes. Have 2 sightron 8 x 32 X 50 both w/ FC and dot. I own several Nightforce scopes and several Swarorski scopes. For the money and warranty Sightron is hard to beat.

Yes, the new NightForce has a speed dial and return to Zero heavier turrent springs and is tougher externally.

As for clarity, light gathering, and tracking the sightrons have been as good or better.

as Nat says...clarity,light gaterin,tracking....is good....what more culd u ask 4,,,,I took a look thru one at the Nats last fall ...a competitor next to me wus usin one....it shure made the target look good......I may hav to try one ....Roger

4 SIII's here: 6-24, 8-32 and two 10-50's and love them. If you've got the coin for NF then no reason to not own what you want. On the 10-50's I regard them as more of a 40x max scope but they are very clear at that power.

I'd have to add the cost of a divorce attorney into the price of a NF so SIII's work for me just fine for my varmint hunting.

this is what i like about this site nearly everyone has first hand experience i dont think ill have a fit after all i ask for it i got it thanks fellas respectfully alan. also i think 40x is plenty for these old eyes anyway.

I have an 8-32 NSX, 12- 42 NSX, 12-42 BR , Leupold 8.5-25 x 50, and a Leupold 40x45 comp. I have no problems at all with the paralex, so maybe I won't have any trouble with the Sightron, either. Hope that is the case!!!

Good scope for the money very good scope. I find mine touchy also. I have a 12-42br Nightforce I have not mounted on anything yet I will compare them side by side soon. PG

Keep us informed....nothing beats a real world test by someone who owns BOTH scopes. None of that "mine is better than yours" krap!!!

I owned a 12-42 NF but was very dissapointed at the optical quality for the $ spent. I now have a 40x Leupy Comp, 36 B&L and the 10-50x60 Sightron. My only grief is I cannot use another Sightron and make weight. I run 1.200" and I can make lt on my Borden action rifle. I am shocked how much better I can see at 600 with the Sightron. I put a Bulzeye Pro 3x multicoat for a 66.6 total power. I`m in love with the Sightron. Yes the dial for parallax is sensitive at max power, so what? Run it at 50x and enjoy!!

Sounds like it should be a good investment. But the "Yes the dial for parallax is sensitive at max power, so what? Run it at 50 x and enjoy!!"......... I do not enjoy shooting bigger groups...and at a 1000 yard IBS match....every 1/10th counts!!!! If I can't achieve (in my eye, anyway) zero paralex...I won't use that scope...plain and simple. WAY to much time and money involved to shoot second rate equipment!!!!

Just my .02 FWIW

I ran the 8x32 Sightron on my 1K stock gun for a couple of years and could not find a fault with it. But then I immediately bought the 10x50 when it came out to replace it. I believed in the more is better theory, til this move.

I struggled with the AO, and could never seem to get the the parallax out of it. Once I backed it off to around 40x, you didn't notice it as much, but it bothered me that it was still there. Also at 50x, I thought it got a little darker and and not quite as clear as when it was around the 40X mark.

I figgered then, if I was going to run a scope at 40X, it might as well be a NF. So after taking it out twice for an honest try, I pulled it off, and mounted up another 12x42 NF.

My results only, of course.......

I don't shoot F-class, so have never been attracted to the higher magnification SIIIs. I've got four 6-24s & a 8-32, and have found 32x to be all that I can use from prone with a sling. So far as that goes, I've been very pleased with the optical quality, as well as the stability, repeatability, and accuracy of the adjustments of the lower-powered bretheren of the 10-50 model. Seems to me that more often than not, mirage makes 32x too much power at 1000yds. anyway.

I found immediately the opposite. My groups tightened up and my load devlopement on this new Benchmark is proof. I guess attention to detail is paramount in benchrest, and adjustments on the parallax setting of your Sightron are included. If you switch to a Sightron and shot bigger groups I assure you I`d be looking elsewhere. This was Saturday before last with new Sightron mounted up. 1.7595" agg @ 600 is .1335" off the world record fired in competition. I shot 4 different powder charges with Varget.
I like the first one best......... ;)

The way you and I rate equipment is very different indeed!!!
