Sight Height

I have a question about sight height? I am playing with some software and was wondering how and where to measure the sight height of a scope that is mounted on a 20MOA base? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

Measure from the axis of the bore to the center of the scope at where the elevation and windage adjustments are.
This does not have much influence on the results, so don't worry about measuring to thousandths.

i paid little attention to "sight height" when using hornady's free ballistic calculater until i began missing ghogs beyond 400 yds. my bullet always hit high(over the back of a walking ghog). i fianally paid attention to this factor in calculating a ballistic table. measured center bore to center scope and VOILA! my seight height was 2.5 in, not the 1.5 that hornady has as a given on the page of variables used to calculate a ballistic table. the difference at 500 yds was a full minute...5 in! used the correct value, made a new table and bang...splat,dtr at 532 yds and 509 yds and 522 yds. under 300 yds my error was so small as not to cause a miss but i always wondered why my poi was a little off my poa. target shooting allows time to correct, but varmint targets don't always stay put while you adjust your trajectory. i use a ballistic table religiously since guessing holdover at long range is just that...guessing. i like my bullet to go exactly where my target dot tells it to go and sight height is important as noted...my 2$(inflation, you know).[/quote] if i can see you, i can touch you. BANG!

Ipreddick you just wrote my story just about to the T.
At 500 I am over top of them I currently have my sight height set a 2.375. But that is measured up towards the bell. the father you measure back towards the eyepiece the taller it is (20MOA base). So that is what I am tyring to figure out at what point on the scope to measure to. I am going to try fiverings suggestion and measure at the turrets and see how it works out.
Thanks guys

Bryan Litiz talks about this in his book " Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting ". He might come visit and help out.

1/2 action diameter plus 1/2 scope tube diameter plus base/ring height. that is the thickness of the base and the measurment from the base of the ring to the bottom of the ring....(the bottom of the ring where the tube sits). one piece ring/basses are measured from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the ring. do not bother with the front/back of a 10/20/40moa base. If you want you can figure the height of both, add them together, and devide by 2.

Rem action = 1.35" x .5 = .68"
1 inch scope tube= 1" x .5 = .50" (30 mm = 1.2" x .5 = .60")
.68 + .50 (or .60) plus X.XX ring/base height = scope height above bore.
