SIG SAUER CROSS Accuracy

Has anybody been able to get any decent (0.5MOA) accuracy out of a SIG CROSS rifle, with handloads?

From what I've seen, they don't seem to be particularly accurate rifles, and rather intended to cater for hunters where 2MOA accuracy with factory ammo is acceptable?

TIA for your thoughts...

There’s a link at the bottom in case you’re curious or don’t know what an Sig Cross rifle is. I like the concept, the cross I had for a short time was not a shooter. A new barrel may do wonders and it was only one rifle, hard to judge a line of rifles on just one sample but that was my experience. Mine was a 16” 308.

I was wanting one but the dealer only had it in 6.5CM. I was wanting 308 so I didn't buy. Now I am thinking it was a good idea passing it up. I hate thinking of paying for a new rifle only to rebarrel it right off the git go.

Also i find it harder to shoot a light weight rifle ( Particularity a Chassis style) than a heavier conventional style stock into smaller groups. Everyone wants a light weight dandy rifle but wants it to shoot like a big heavy weight gun. Its a LOT harder to do. I guess most folks dont know how to do that based off what i see here at the range every day.

Also i love the guys who get a 6.5 Creed Sig Cross with a 16" barrel and expect to be the same as a 24" and 26" barrel. Ballisticly they have neutered it down to a conventional 308. I tell them its sub sonic or close to it at 1000 yards and they look at me like I have a horn growing out of my head. LOL.

Had another Sig Cross show up at the range on Sunday. This one a 6.5 Creed with a longer barrel than most. 24-26" Guy was working on hand loads, 140 Berger hybrids, H4350, Hornady cases, 210 Primers. Best group was .865. MOA at 300yards.

I have one in 308 and developed a load for Nosler 150 ballistic tips for deer and hog. It ended up being a 3/4 minute load for me but I only tinkered with it for an afternoon. Loaded rounds at 2.800 (never chased lands) and ran a ladder test using Varget. Ended up liking 45.0 grains Varget at 2700 fps. My problem with the gun was the heavier recoil of a 308 made it tough to drive tacks. I'm sure an efficient muzzle brake or suppressor would tame it down but I did not want an aggressive brake on this short rifle. My experience with factory loads has been good, most reputable loads shot under an inch.

I know this is an old thread but my friend has one in 6.5CM and it shoots pretty nice... But I also heavily agree with knotwilds post... I have some sigs and like them but I really like the made in Germany ones.... I also have a Tikka and there's not much to say but it's flat out the best rifle in all ways I have bought in a very long time , it's highly accurate the triggers great and there's nothing I would change about it even the plastic stock... I got it as a hunting rifle and love it...

I don't speak for anyone else but my hunting rifle better atleast get 1 moa

Still working here at the range and still have seen only one Sig Cross get even close to 1/2MOA. a 16" 6.5 Creed with hand loads. just over 1/2 MOA if I remember correctly.

I personally love my cross. the tricky thing is the cross' are very picky eaters when it comes to bullets and powders. what i have found works best in my Cross 6.5CM 16" is the staball and H4350 powders.

However, keep in mind guns have appetites which holds very true for the cross. example my dad has the exact same gun but FDE (mines black) and his gun LOVES IMR4350. if you see the data below my gun HATES IMR4350. just like as you see my gun seems to like the staball6.5, but my dads gun HATES the staball powder for some reason lol. something about the harmonics of the powders the guns do not like. in short its all about trial and error. gotta put alot of rounds down range to find what you gun likes.

The best factory load i have found so far was the Sig Sauer Elite 130Gn. my rifle personally HATES the Federal American Eagle 123Gn. the MOA was roughly 2.5".

This was also during the first 300 shots of the rifles life. just picked it up 3 weeks ago. the whole reason i did was because my dad has had his for over a year and we both loved it.

And before i get criticized too much for the craziness of this information. This was the first set of tests with 3-5 shot increments. the top 10 loads i loaded another 25 of each to test for consistency, haven't shot yet, just loaded last night. Could some of this been luck? yea of course, but this was a very broad test to get me in the ballpark of what might and might not work. further tests to come.
