Sierra varminter 110gr bullets in 30br

Anyone try using Sierra varminter 110 grain bullets in their 30br rifle? I recently bought some of the 110gr varminters and loaded them for my sporter barrel savage 110E 30-06 to shoot some unopened canned foods and cans of pop nobody wanted at my house (something I do pretty regularly) and noticed I was getting really good accuracy at 100 yards with them so I set up a target stand and a paper target then shot some 5 shot groups groups and was shocked that the old savage huntin’ rifle with a 4-12 power scope was shooting the best groups it’s ever shot hands down. A number of .5 inch and .75 inch 5 shot 100 yard groups with a factory savage hunting rifle was pretty impressive to me which got me thinking about trying them in my 30br and seeing what kind of groups I could get with an actual benchrest rifle. I’ve shot all the varminters and would have to buy more to experiment with but if it’s worth trying I’d give it a shot… So if anyone has already tried them in a 30br I’d like to hear about your results?

I tried these in my 30BR 1 - 17 Tw. 24 " barrel sometime back and did no other development with them but I believe with some seating depth work this load would do even better. I found this data in my 6th Edition Sierra manual and other listed powders below as well.

110 GR. SIERRA FB/HP 1.581 O M 2.045 COL T/L
POWDER 33.4 GR. VV-N133 PRIMER FED 205M

Yea, they seem to be in stock at several places. If you try them please let me know how they work out for you.
I’ll do that and maybe I’ll upload some pics of my targets. Won’t be this weekend here in Janesville Iowa it’s supposed to be storms Saturday and very windy Sunday. The varminters I think are available at my local sporting goods store. They had them in stock last weekend anyways.

Sounds like you have a few days to get ahold of them with the inclement weather approaching. Good luck and safe shooting.

Data does not win matches. Good repeatable targets do. If I was trying them it would include trying H4198 and LT30. The "data" is not hard to figure out.It might work. I have been testing something for a year that I think will surprise some folks but probably not ready to compete with it until next year. Sometimes out of the box is surprising, and when it repeats warrants trying in real life. Waiting on a new barrel I ordered almost a year ago to finalize this project. Fuj, the Elf might go down in a vicious dog fight, lol.

Absolutely. Only a place to start.
