Sierra Hunting Bullets?

What is the difference between the Sierra game king, and pro-hunter? Do these bullets have near the accuracy as Match-kings. I will be getting a custom .270 soon that I will be using for mule deer here in Utah. Has anybody tried either of these?

I have found the Sierra hunting bullets to be very accurate. THe gameking has a boat tail & the pro-hunter has a flatbase. At high velocity, the ph's will stay together a better. THe GK's have a reputation of being a bit soft. I have had great success with them on deer.

I've had Sierra Gamekings in several calibers shoot extremely well. And yes, they're very effective on deer!

I have used both the 130 gr. PH and GK bullets in my Rem. 700 270 Win. and they are both very accurate and they are very good deer killers. Bang flop. The standard load and the one that just happens to be the most accurate in my rifle is 60 grs. H4831, CCI BR-2 primer, Rem. case, 130 Sierra OAL 3.420 . From my 24 inch barrel it is a little over 3100 fps.

When working up a hunting load for my 270 I tried the 135MK and the 140GK. The MK ended up a hair under .5 inch for three shots while the GK was about .625. I ended up going with the MK for deer and glad I did. My best results for velocity and accuracy for both bullets came with RE22. The gun is the cheapest 700 sporter Remington makes.

The pro hunter is a flat based bullet and the game king is a boat tail. I have shot both...... 180 prohunter out of a 308 norma mag, on white tail..... bad performance, seemed like the bullet was too tuff for deer, nickel sized exit hole, almost like a pass thru). Maybe it was also too much gun/bullet combo. I shoot 165 gr game kings out of a 308 win and the deer act like they got hit with a truck, great performance, big exit hole...... lots of shock. Deer are usually dead on there feet and some have dropped in their tracks. Hope this helps.

A couple of years back my partner and I were hunting bucks. We jumped a buck and my partner took the first shot at around 60 yards, a hit behind the shoulders. It continued to run, then stopped.

We were both using Sierra bullets, both out of high velocity rifles. His rifle was a 25-284 shooting 100 Gamekings at 3300, My rifle a 25-06 A.I shooting the 100 grain Pro-hunters at the same speed.

I took the second shot in the neck. Dropping it.

Upon investigation, his Gameking bullet actually blew up behind the hide. My Prohunter bullet, penetrated and opened up as a bullet should.

I have came to the conclusion, if your choosing a slower cartridge or shooting longer ranges the Gameking would be your bullet where expansion is needed. But if your shooting closequarters, with a high velocity cartridge and want penetration, the Pro-hunter would be the best.
