Sierra GameKing 55gr

I found a old cardboard box of Sierra GameKing 55gr BTHP #1390
and was thinking of working up a new load for my 223 AR using Varget.
How do they shoot and how do they work for you.
Thanks

In my AR with a 20" match barrel, I load 26 gr. of Varget with 55 gr. BK bullets. Performs very well n hell on coyotes. The GK bullets should do well also.

I shot the 55gr hpbt for a while in a 22-250 and a swift. They were very accurate, but didn't seem as explosive on the groundhogs that I was shooting as the soft points, and now the tipped bullets.

My experience closely parallels Gary's. Several years ago I loaded 500 Sierra 55gr GK's for my .22/250's to shoot PD's. Accuracy was very good, about 1/2" @ 100 yds. Most PD's hit would just stand there, a small droplet of blood would appear around the entry wound and a few seconds later the PD would topple over dead. Wound channel was very small, like punching a large nail through. Although I never tried it I think the GK's should work well on larger critters. I suppose that's why they were called Game Kings and not Varmint Kings. Vic

I used to use them in both a 22-250 and a swift. they were very accurate and performed great on ground hogs. they make a great pop noise when they hit. I never had a problem with them not opening up, and they were my favorite bullet for years. I guess if I still had a 22cal I would still use them. a few crows & pigeons as well, never any doubt when you made a hit there. :o

Just finished up with load development with the 55gr Sierra BTHP out of my Rock River ATH 18" barrel and am quite pleased.
.385 5 shot group at 106yds was and .955 at 200yds could do a little better at 200yds if I had a better scope.
Thanks for the help
