Sierra 95 Grain BTHP in 6mm Norma BR

I'm working up a XTC rapid fire load using 95SMK's and Varget. A good full load in my gun with a thight chamber is about 30.1 grs. In a 30" kreiger barrel MV is around 2890. There's some room above this but I dont know how much. I only get about 1 moa out of these bullets so I'm not looking around much.

I would start about 28.5gr and work up.

Your OAL really depends on your gun. Mine is 2.375" because that's the longest that will fit in my magazine and the load is for rapidfire. It gives me a "jump" of about 0.030", which is fine for Sierra's.

If you are not bound to an OAL by some physical limitation on the gun, you can choose it based on the bullet you choose and the chamber of the gun. You will need a tool to measure the point where the bullet engages the lands. Stony Point and Sinclair International make good ones.

The general thinking is that bullets with a sharper shoulder like to be jambed into the lands and bullets with a rounder shoulder like to jump into the lands.

Thanks for the info. I have a 6mmBR case coming for my Sinclair seating guage, was just wondering what other loaders got for OAL.

I'm loading for a Savage 110 action I rebarreled to 6mm BR Norma using an EABCO 26" barrel, 1 in 8 twist. I'll have plenty of room in the longer action to play with seating depth.

Tom:
I finally got 95SMK's to shoot a decent group of about 5/8 MOA in some switchy conditions at 200yds. 30.5gr Varget @2950fps. Good enough for the occasional 300M prone shoot. If you have a 1:8 twist barrel I would be looking at the 105-107gr class of bullets. Just my $0.02.

Hi, I bought a box of these bullets along with the new Serra loading manual, but the manual didn't list a load for that 95gr. hpbt, I called up Sierra and spoke with a Tech. and he told me to use the 100gr. load info until they can send a supplement to the manual. I am testing differant bullets from 88gr.Bergers up to 107gr.Sierra's. The 95gr Sierra with Varget powder shot a .380 group at 100yards, I am also breaking in barrel. OAL was at 2.380. I am new to this site but i am getting some education on the 6br.

Yeah, this caliber is new to me too. I've been loading/shooting for over 30 years and marvel at how much I still learn about this hobby. None of my manuals show data for the 6mm BR Norma, guess I'll have to spring for the new Sierra.

Hi guys, you can call Sierra's tech line and the guys there are very knowledgeable and friendly. Or go to their website and email Rich Macholz your questions. He is a long range rifle competitor and knows his stuff. I am sure he can help you out.
And if you are ever in the Sedalia, Mo area stop by for a tour of the plant. It is very interesting and worth the time. Sierra has good bullets and good tech support. The tech line number is 1-800-223-8799 Jim

Yeah, I noticed that. I just purchased Sierra's 5th load manual and nothing listed for the 95 grain bullet.
