sierra 7mm 180 grs. matchking twist rate???

What twist rate are you guys using? box says 8 twist or faster, I will be shooting them out of a straight 284 win. 9 twist and a 284 Shehane 8.5 twist barrel. Thanks for any info. Jeffery

I shoot both a 284 and a 7rsaum.

Have 2 barrels for the 284, both 9 twist. I shoot the 180 Berger hybrids at about 2820 to 2850 fps. Both shoot great.

The 7 rsaum currently has a 1:875 twist and shoots very well at about 2950 fps with the same 180 Berger hybrids.

Having 2, 7 rsaum barrels chambered in 1:9 twist, as we speak. I am sure they will be fine with the 180's.

Sierra is always conservative with its twist rate recommendations. 9 is fine, but I shoot them happily in an 8.5 to 8 Bartlein gain twist barrel as that's what I managed to get hold of for the rifle.

Just to make sure, there are online, free barrel twist calculators. Brian Litz, Berger ballistician, recommends at least 1.4.

I'm shooting 180 Sierra MK from a 9 twist 284. They shoot very well for me.
