Sierra 25 Cal Gameking SBT on Deer (#1625)

Hi folks,

Has anyone used the 25 Cal 100gr Sierra Gameking SBT on deer? I am thinking of using it with a 257 Roberts so MV likely in the 2,900 fps (maybe touching 3,000 fps) range.

Best wishes,

Scrummy

(Mods, my apologies if this should be in reloading rather than hunting and feel free to move if I've goofed)

Sorry, I don't have any experience with these but I do believe the hunting forum is an appropriate forum for your question. Actual experience with these on deer is what you need to hear. My wife is recoil sensitive and shoots a 223 for deer hunting. I've tried a few different bullets for her and finally settled on the Sierra Gameking SBT's. I know this probably has not much relevance to your question.

I have been loading for 25-06 for 60 years and used to reload sierra 100gr for years! I quit using them about 10 years ago because they would blow up on deer and made a big mess. Started useing 115gr bergers in 25-06 and .257 roberts and never looked back. They are the most accurate in both guns and drop game great.(DIT). dead-in-tracks).

I like the 65gr Gameking SBT in my .223 Rem and have used the 117gr in my Roberts before with good results.

Yes, i've used it on does here in PA with my 257 Roberts.
Performed just fine on 80 yard shot. She went about 20 yards and dropped.

As others have mentioned, the 100,115gr Ballistic Tip, and 115gr Berger all perform well also.

I wouldn't hesitate to use any of them.

I have shot 3 Pa bucks with my #1 in .257 and Sierra 117 Game King. All where roughly 75 to 85 yards, all shot just above front leg and all ran about 30 to 40 yds. No complaints here. All three exited opposite shoulder.

I like the 117gr Gamkeking and have used it before.

Have been offer ~225 100gr Gamekings for a good price hence why asking (Makes it worth developing a load for but as I have a load for 100gr Speer Hotcors I suspect it will be in a similar place)

Close to what you are doing, my 250 savage loves the Sierra 90gr HP bullet deer lungs into soup, and I'd expect it to stop a pig fast as well
