sierra 168MK or ?

i run the 168gr sierra match kings in a couple 308's. i like them for accuracy, but they do not work on big animals. many years ago i tried the 165gr game kings, but the accuracy was not there.

i would like to use a bullet that gives me great accuracy for target shooting, but would also like to be able to knock down an animal with the same load. without buying a bunch of potential bullets and trying to develop a load for each, is there a bullet known to do what i want to do?

That's interesting. My last hunting 308 would put five 165SGKS inside of two inches at 200 yards every time*, and usually it put them inside of an inch and a half. I got better accuracy from the 165SGK hollow points but at the time I read that they had thicker jackets for higher velocities that I was getting so I used the SPBTs. I also remember reading a the time that the 165s and the 168s shot the same for a lot of folks out to hunting distances. I've never shot the 168s.

The rifle was a R700 Varmint in a B&C stock. I sold it because it was just too nose heavy for a deer stand with the RV barrel. (it was replaced as my main hunting rifle by a 7-08 with a fluted #4)

*assumes reasonable conditions for shooting groups.

180 Gameking SBT #2160 is as accurate as any match bullet. Give them a shot and you'll be surprised. G1 bc = .505
