sie 175 tipped match kings, 308 mag fed

simple question
anyone shooting sie 175tmk's from a magazine,
either a bolt gun or a gas gun(ar10) ?
my mags seem to measure 2.87x
my loaded round, touching is 2.87,my plan was 2.83
part of this is the bullet profile changed from the samples used to spec the reamer,
and the box of 500 i later bought.
anyone shooting from a mag at 2.83
anyone having issue with tip damage when shooting from a mag ?
just finished replacing the bbl on my ar10t with a new krieger and a slightly modified
'95 palma reamer( shorter throat for this bullet)

I shoot AR 10 COAL 2.940" TO 2.960" max depending on brand of altered mag ....and milled altered lower. The tipped bullets don't get deformed..208 ELD-M...but I dont run the SMK tipped...tried them a few yrs ago but the regular MKs were more consistent.
I don't use light 175 gr bullets for my long range plinking ...but save them for subsonic and moderate ranges and tend to go to 9 and 8 twist...200gr to 230 gr in 308...and built a 308 on a long action 30" barrel...feed up to 3.4" cartridges out of the detachable magazine...with over 3600 ft/lbs of energy 2856 fps Ave with 200 gr 715 BC in 8 twist...or 225 ELDM 2675 fps or the less accurate, so far, 230 gr Atip at 2620 fps.
Ran the 200 gr SMK at 2675 ish fps from an 18" AR 10 Proof barrel, single load.
The 308 is not the same old low powered bad BC 168 load, these days, but with new powders and high BC bullets, it's rather capable. All depends on what ya want to do, be conventional, or extend the horizon, and how much you alter the gun and mags...

the object is to run the gun as built, not to alter it.
guess i will wait for temps to rise and just test, test test
the new bbl is 24" like the original ar10(t)

I've tried the 175 TMKs a few times in the past and they always did better much closer to the lands. I couldn't get them to shoot with big jumps.

Even with my Bisley reamer, which is not too different from your Palma, I was still jumping them at 2.935"

Tried it in my Remington 700 with the cartridges loaded at 2.800 OAL. Shot 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards. The throat in this rifle is way too long plus it's a long ways to seat the bullet into the case. Tried 155 grain bullets and it seemed to work much better. YMMV

Just for the information on the bullet itself . I ran through two boxes of these 175 tipped a few years ago , in my Kelby TR rifle , and they proved to like being very close to touch for best accuracy . Like .005 off touch . The farther away from the Leade , the more erratic they get . Never could get them to settle , so I gave up and went back to the Juggs .

thanks,
this is "planned" to be moa to maybe 1/2 moa...we will see

I tried one box of them through a Rem 700 using the magazine. I wasn't impressed, the traditional MatchKing shot better for me, I gave the remainder of the box to a friend. I had better luck with them in .223 Rem and got the 69s to shoot, but the 77 gr traditional matchking still shot better for me.

I never noticed any problems with tip deformation or anything like that. The .308 I loaded to 2.800" to 2.820". In fact, only time I've had a problem with tip deformation in a magazine-fed rifle was Nosler Accubonds.
