side bolt stop

Hey fellas, does anybody know how to machine the action and make the stop for a remmy. Pictures would also be great but I'll take what I can get. Thanks guys, SPM

I got a few from AMT before they went belly up. I took the bolt stop out of an AMT, made a drawing and machined a few 700s for the stops. They look neat, are neat but I'm not doing anymore for anybody else.
The thing is..... you have to be correct in all three axis when you do the maching. Ya only get one chance.
You might be able to buy some from Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool and Gage. I hear that he makes them for some custom action makers.
You can do a sample cut on a piece of aluminum, 1.350 o.d., 1" i.d. which is what a Rem is at the raceway.

I was talking about the "rocker" style bolt stop/release. The spring plunger style are simple, just a dr/tapped 5/16-24 hole with a spot faced flat in the appropriate place.

I also would like to come up with a simple to install but good looking bolt release. The Sinclair knobs fulfill the first part but fail miserably on the second part.

I actually bed my Remingtons like you would do a Savage, ie floating tang. Because of this the std Remmy bolt release set up works just fine. Someday I would like to experiment with a glue-in so I would need something up top.

Wally Heart makes a "presto" style bolt stop that is knurled and round, rather than looks like a bolt head!!)..and it is installed in the bolt raceway like the one Donovan told us about...I have used them for 30yrs ..no problem...Roger

Nor-Cal Precision uses a Ruger 77 stop on Remingtons.

Buying them from Stiller seems like a good way to go to me as you can't build them for $15 on manual machinery if your time is worth anything. I've built Panda style bolt stops for Remington's and is one of those cases where you could set up and build several in the length of time that it takes to make a one once you have a pattern made.
