SHV series of scopes

Seems there has been quite a number of the SHV line for sale, in several classified sections of late, so I am thinking they are bought and for whatever reason available for sale, due to deficiencies.
I have heard complaints of plastic parts, glass quality, and tight eye box.
Not having used or even handled one, I am looking for comments/concerns from those who have 'hands on' experience.

@voldoc02 , Doc Stone loved his and I was impressed with the glass. I believe he only sold it because he wanted more magnification than 20x
Maybe Doc will chime in

put a "@" in front of his screen name and you'll be assured you'll get his attention..

I bought my first 4-14 SHV for a calling rifle in which I had always used reticle hold. I next purchased a 5-20 for another rifle, then began to dial come-up's when shooting distance at stationary targets. I found the zero set to be a feature that I wanted so I picked up another 5-20 with the exposed turret. After purchasing a 4-32 FFP NX8 for a dedicated distance rifle and comparison, I sold the 4-14 off as I learned the value of the zero set/stop for my mixed type of use at this time. I will likely top the new build with another 5-20 SHV but then again I may see what the ATACR is all about.

I have two SHV 5-20 and would not think of getting rid of either one. One is on a 20 Vartarg and the other is on a 17 HMR. Since both calibers are very flat shooters, I really don't require a FFP style scope. I don't shoot past 400 yards with the VT or 200 with the HMR.

I like everything about them and haven't had any issues with either one. I've been thinking about getting a .223 and if I do, I'll put an SHV on it as well.

Both scopes work well with the type of hunting and calibers I use.

Down side...For 200-300 more you can get a NF BR and 42X magnification vs 20X
That's true and the power range is 12-42. I have one of those as well on a BR rifle. If hunting, the 12x might be a little too much power when scanning the fields since your field of view would be reduced.

I have the BRs on several hunting rifles. That being said if a person hunts woods 12X can be pushing it.
