Show me your Heavy Gun.

Tell me what you like best about it.

Anything you would change?

Stock it a Shehane ST 1000 to be painted, it has lead added to the stock for balance, lilja 28" 8 twist, 1.350 taper to 1.200. Jewel 2 oz trigger, action is a stiller Viper ss, jgs reamer in 6 dasher.. And Murphy Precision mounts, polished them myself, leupold 45x45 competition with target dot, all in all pretty stock standard.. But yet to shoot it.

The trend at our club seems to be moving away from traditional heavy guns. A lot are just shooting their light guns and those with heavies are basically a 20 lb light gun. If you get your light gun to track I am not sure theres an advantage to a heavy unless you want to soot a 300.

Terry, a lot of shooters are basically turning their LG's into heavies with 5 or 6 inch forearms and 2" wide bag riders in the back. I can see why because I've always had a problem with my LG tracking, it never comes back to the same spot, that's why I love my true HG.

Here's mine. It's a Bat M action Dual Port in a McMillan MBR stock that's got lead molded inside it. The barrels I have for this are, 300 WM 1/10 twist 284 Shehane 9 twist and an 8 Twist 6 Dasher.

This is probably the most accurate rifle I have. The reason I like it is that it tracks and goes right back to point of aim. I'm considering building a LG with same style stock and doing away with one of the Leonard stocks, that's how well this tracks.

Can't show you a heavy gun because i use two light guns, added the UHMW. plates and they track great. Can't see the need unless you shoot a 300 WSM. but in a Dasher it shot a bunch of 4" 100's. When you get up in age, lugging them around gets to be work……… jim

I think shooting your light gun in the heavy gun class is a great idea, everyone should do it. You want have to lug around that old Heavy gun. And only have to work up one load. ::) :o

Mike, some people don't have help to get them up on the bench. 8)………. lol ..jim

Mine is intended for 3x40 and Prone at 300 meters.
Unique T3000 in 6.5x55, very close to 8 kg. Two barrels, one for training, Pac-Nor 1:8", 4 grooves and 9,204 shots, still accurate; the other is also Pac-Nor 1:8", 5 grooves and 2,236 shots, just perfect.

Alex, after half the season was almost over i got my light guns working i think my 6 match agg. for heavy with the light gun was 5.6". So light guns are more than capable if they track …… jim

Here's a better picture of my "real" heavy gun, I knew I had one somewhere. If I keep after it I'm sure I can make it out shoot my light guns. Maybe even use it in a relay some day.
