Shout Out to Jackie Schmidt

I single handily worked my self into a corner with my 30BR. Jackie stepped up and helped me out with my ignition problem. To make a long story short he makes high quality small parts as well as the huge ones we see posted about his business. Thanks to Jackie I hope to have nice shooting season if the snow and ice will go away.

I certainly do not mind helping a fellow shooter out, especially if he needs something made that is difficult to obtain, and I can do it with not much more cost to me than a little of my time.

Jackie, how are you? Why don't you tell these folks about your early beginnings in Benchrest shooting the cartridge you were determined to make work. To this day I am not a PPC fan. Only because I have a problem with anything stamped Russian and you probably thinking the same thing, I am guessing the rise of the 6 & 30 BR suits you fine. Well me too. The time a new bench rifle was sold for Very very cheap? That may not have been you that gave the rifle away. I don't remember for sure now. Maybe RUE? That may have been what made you legendary around Houston. I met Jackie at a Pasadena Gun show in the late 90's. Who am I Jackie? Still buying Cadillacs for the little woman?

One of the things that makes any hobby pleasurable is running into guys that will freely offer their experience and help as one struggles to get better at what they do! Big pat on the back to Mr. Schmidt :)

I think Jackie's first BR rifle was a 25BR. It was a 25 cal. I do remember a match in New Braunfels that Jackie was very unhappy. He said if anybody wanted his sorry BR rifle that they could have it for a pittance. One of the shooters from Corpus Christi spoke up and bought it. I forgot the fellow's name. He waited for a few days and offered it back to Jackie. Jackie said no. He said he lost his temper and didn't deserve to have it back.
Yes, He is one of the goodguys.

He also will share his marine machinist knowledge. I once asked him a question about a ships rudder and he answered by explaining how they were assembled. He has a wealth of knowledge on many subjects other than guns and ship repair.

Butch, you are correct.
As you know, Glenn Newick was kind of my mentor. I had met him and Hank Faulkner at a big gun show in the mid 1990’s. I was totally fascinated with Benchrest Rifles.
Glenn had a Shilen 8 Groove 25 caliber barrel and a reamer that had “Agg Whacker” on it. He told me if I would chamber it up I could have it. It was a 1-13 twist.

Berger was making some really good 87 grn 25 cal bullets. Jeff Fowler also made a 82 grain that was about as good of a bullet ever made.

I built it on a 40x action with an old McMillan stock.

As you remember, it shot pretty darned good. I still have that reamer. I finally gave in and went 6PPC in around 1999.

You have me at a loss. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then.
And yes, that pretty wife of mine, (our 54th wedding anniversary is May 21st), still likes her Cadillacs.

She cooks pretty good also. I remember eating in your motor home I believe, it was at Raton in the early days.

Not everywhere, believe me. You are lucky to have Jack on your side of the pond.
