Shoulder bump Vs. Full resizer die

OK guys, learn me something......please.

What's the difference between a shoulder bump die and a full resizer die? My shooting partner got a SB die for his 6BR and after reading the instructions and examining the die, it appears to be the same, except.....no primer extractor rod in the SB die. The only thing I could suspect different is that the SB die might be a little larger in the neck area so that the neck of the brass is not touched.

If I'm correct, it seems like you could use a 6BR full sizer die, remove the decaper stem and then use it to "bump" the brass of a 22BR.....Yes/no

Thanks

With the Redding "S" dies, you will still be sizing the body as you bump the shoulder even w/o the bushing or decapping pin ass'y ( what you referred to as the primer extraction rod). Some dies ONLY bump the shoulder (to adjust for proper headspace).....such as the Forster Bushing Bump die used w/o the bushing.

+1 - The name of the Die infers what it will do for you.

For comparison... I have a couple Redding Type 'S' F/L bushing dies (one regular, one small base) in .308 Win, as well as a Redding body die and a Forster Precision bump die.

The Redding dies size the shoulder and the Forster bump die does not. Measuring the shoulder diameter with a caliper before sizing = .455". After passing through the bump die, it still measures 0.455". After going thru the body die or one of the Redding Type 'S' F/L dies, even when set for minimal shoulder bump... the shoulder diameter measures 0.452".
