Long story short my uncle left his beretta silver pigeon in the box of his pickup for a week... in the rain in a soft case. The blueing is peeling off or flaking off but no rust pitting.. who can he send it to too get it blued again? Thanks!
This one is only about 10 years old. Im hoping to give him a few options and places to call on monday. Glenn rock bluing was also suggested to me. So i'll have my uncle call them to.To the best of my knowledge Beretta over and under's are welded not soldered. They can be hot blued {they are when they are made} so anyone that does hot bluing should be able to polish and blue the barrels. You don't just throw them in a bluing tank though, they have to be completely polished and blued. Most of them, at least the newer ones made in the last like 30 years or so also have hard chrome lined bores and so the bores should be plugged before going in the tank.
Thanks!Greetings,
Check with Brileys, in Texas. Outstanding work.
Good luck
John
You might be 100% right. I'll have to look into that.I could be way out in left field here but think I am on solid ground. Most all of the Beretta shotguns are black chromed on the outside. That is why you are seeing the bluing flake off.
At least one shotgun smith told me that the inside bores are also chrome lined. He said when he backbored
a Beretta barrel, he had to hone the bore instead of using a reamer because of the hardness.
I have several Beretta 680-682 guns, also 301-302-303's and I have never seen a barrel develop any light surface rust on them. And I wasn't a real good caretaker of some of my working guns.
You might be 100% right. I'll have to look into that.
I have never heard of bluing peeling/flaking off.
I gave my uncle the numbers to turnbull, cole gunsmithing and glen rock bluing. Told him to decide.Man that sucks. Send that rig to turnbull and get it back to the beauty it was
........It will never be anything more than a shooter now...........
Could you please explain why??
