Shot my new rifle today

So I recently sold my rifle and bought a stock Savage FTR 308 win rifle. Got it and cleaned it up and put my new bipod on and went to break in the barrel this afternoon.

Shot 10 rounds cleaning after each then shot for a group. Shot a group like this with only 11 rounds down the barrel. Measures 0.346 MOA off a bipod. ;D

and the rifle

Going out tom or Friday to do some load development with the 175 SMK so I hope it will shoot just as good for me. This is my 600/1000 yard FTR gun.

*Sightron S111 10-50x FCH scope
*EGW 20 MOA base
*Burris Sig Z Rings 30mm High model
*Duplin bipod(this thing is freaking lite)
*Savage stock FTR 308 win
*Sinclair Anti cant device(scope mounted)

Dang at the short throat this chamber has!! Old bullet and chamber could seat 2.235"to lands(ogive). This chamber 2.181" is the lands... That is huge difference

nice looking rig! how do you like the FCHs on the scope? i'm asking because i'm looking at the SIII 8x32x56 and can't decide between the 1/8" target dot or the fine cross hairs for long range target shooting.

FCH. I had the 1/8 TD reticle and sold it and went with this one. Can aim more precise with the FCH in my opinion

that's what I wanted to confirm, you helped me make my decision! I was leaning towards the FCH from the start but thought the dot may have been better.
thanks for your help.

Sounds like the old barrel was chambered with an obermeyer reamer and this one was with a palma reamer. That's a .054 difference which is about the same difference in the 2 reamers. Take it to a smith and have it throated for the bullets you want to shoot.

that sounds like something I would mess up.

Not really, it's super easy and I believe the reamer has an adjustable stop on it so you can't go too deep.

You can probably rent a throating reamer from someone.

Yep, the uni-throater from PTG has a locknut on it to prevent you from going deeper than you want. I used one on my 223 when lengthened my throat from .025 freebore to somewhere around .110. It is real easy to set up and use. And it comes with good directions. Everything turned out good with mine, it shoots bugholes!

sweet rig andrew

if you want, i can hook up you with some 155 berger for the short throat see how those shoot.

trying to grab a Choate stock for the mean time since i am sick of waiting for my stock to get done, but i am going to load up some old recipe and see how it works
