Shot my/my wifes 6BR today!

Finally shot the 6BR i built for my wife for hunting. I just threw on a fixed 10x swfa and loaded up 28 grs of varget with berger 105s... i tried out different seating depths but really didnt get any readable results. Shot at 204 yards, not the best rest.. didnt shoot great... 1 inch groups to 1.5 inch..

I need to buy a better scope so i can see the target way better though. I didnt expect greatness this go round, just playing and getting some rounds down the pipe...

Shoots like a dream though!!! No recoil at all. Wife loved it!!

You'll likely want to work up from that 28gr of Varget...with my Shilen 8 twist and the 105 Berger Hybrids I've found happiness between 29.5 and 30 grains...

Good luck, and enjoy!

Get that load up to 29.5-30.0 and groups will shrink to 1/4". Keep that 200 yard zero and if your 10x swfa has the mil-quad, @6 mils down hold over will ring a 10" steel at 1000 yards: all day long! Your wife and any kid will just giggle and ask for more ammo!!!

No they won't. You could cram 29.5 POUNDS of Varget in the case and the five-shot group size at 204 yards will NEVER average 1/4"; neither would a 3 shot group.

Sorry, but it just ain't gonna' happen.

+1. And definitely don't expect to hit a 10" gong at 1000yds "all day long".

:)What if he "does his part"??:confused::) I think Midnightmedic might have been a little overzealous but I like his positive "cheerleading" attitude.

Ive shot plenty 5 shot quarter inch groups at 200 yards. It aint crazy impossible. Im sure this gun will do it easy. BUT not with the fixed 10x scope!! I gotta get a better scope still..

Edit : well Mozella said average... that is different... .25 inch groups are possible, and it will do it when im done, but i agree wont average it all day long.

I like my 6br, it's accurate (by my standards) and it's a pleasure to shoot, but, I do wish there could be some sort of shooting forum etiquette where a "group" is some sort of consistent standard.

A three shot "group" where you discount the flyer and the one you pulled really doesn't add to the knowledge base. A hundred yard "group" which was actually 100 paces might be 85 yards.

Every smart phone has a camera - What about a "Without a photo it didn't happen" policy.

"All day long" ... I would settle for 3 x 5 shot groups on the same target (including flyers and cold bore shots etc.

Lets get real here. Remember an awful lot of newbie shooters read these posts, isn't it our duty to be straight with them.

Totally agree, it seems weird so many people don't post pics. They'll tell you about it, but won't show you...??

I shoot a 6br, 28" barrel, Lapua brass, 107gr SMK, Weaver T36, 30.1gr Varget, and CCI 450 primer. The rifle does group !/4" at 200yds when I do my part and 3/8>7/16" when I don't. It is the easiest cartridge to load for accuracy that I own.

If you have a rifle that can't be made to agg bigger than 0.220 at 200 you should take it to the Super Shoot and kick Tony Boyer's ass. We'll be looking for you at the top of the winner's list.
