Shortening Forearm

I want to shortening the forearm on one of my rifles. I need a little guidance so I don't screw it up. How many tooth blade do I need and how do I mask it?

It is wood. 60 tooth carbide is the best I have. Looks like it needs a little cleaning up.

I use a fine tooth razor saw myself. AKA fine kerf saw.

Less chance of a problem, for sure.

Being a forend, mask it and cut it. You will want to radius the edges so a little chipping will not hurt. On a buttstock, absolutely mask it and get the finest blade you can find.

Just found my miter saw has a 60 tooth carbide. It has been used a lot. I plan to take 3" off so I can take a practice cut with it. If it doesn't look good, I will visit Home Depot/Lowes. Thanks for the replies guys.

Thank you one and all for the advice. I bought an 80 tooth and put three layers of tape on. It cut so clean it didn't even fray the tape.
