Shortening 6BR barrel down to 25"

I am thinking about cutting my 6BR barrel from 28" down to 25" and getting a new tighter chamber (I have a CIP chamber now). Main purpose: BR matches up to 300m. What do you think?

I have had good success with my 26" barrel, I know of other XTC shooters that use a 24".

The 6BR doesn't seem to care.

Changing barrel length will affect its natural frequency/spring rate. Whether better than before the change is unknown. At any length, the load needs to be tuned to maximize accuracy.

If a tighter chamber means one having less case neck clearance, be advised that many shooters are using “no turn” neck diameters with great success.

I have a 23-1/2” 6BR that shoots lights out that’s a no turn neck. I’ve tried the tight neck route and never could get the consistency I wanted. YMMV!

I bought a used Kelbly Grizzly action 6 br with a 24 inch barrel the previous owner said it had 800 rounds on the barrel his buddy told me it had twice that many. Anyhow I shot it for about another 1200 rounds and it was my best shooting rifle. The last 6br I had built was a 26 inch barrel. I think a 24" 6br barrel would be just fine.

You did not mention what twist rate and what bullet you are shooting.

if it is a 1-8 twist shooting longer and heavier bullets, you will loose a little velocity by cutting it back. If it is a slower twist to shoot bullets used in Short Range BR, then the length is kind of a non issue.

My short range barrel is a 13.5 tw cut to 24", no turn. Has worked well for 2 barrels (though I'm not a speed freak, either.)

Old load was 31 Varget with Column bullets at around 3100 fps. Recently changed to LT-32, 30gns at just over 3450fps (Columns or Bart's 66FB.)

The barrel I mentioned in my post was a 8 twist and I competed with it out to 500 meters. I also have a 7.83" twist 6 dasher Brux barrel at 26" that is doing very well.

I have a 1:12 twist BRA finished at 23” and it shoots Barts 80s really good out to 400 yards.

I run 95gr vlds up to 300m. 1:8 twist.
