Short barrel 300wsm powder

I'm experimenting with a short barrel (19") 300wsm. Trying to find a decent starting point and powder choice for optimal powder burn in the short barrel without over pressuring it with 180g bullet. I'd be thinking about 60ish g of h4350 or 4831 if it were 4" longer. Any thoughts?

I have 20 inch 300WSM and H4350 runs 175-180 gr class Bullets at 2900.

Wow, that’s really interesting.

Usually the powders that give the highest velocities in 24" barrels, will give the highest velocities in shorter barrels and well.

I remember an article in PS mag a bunch of years ago on this topic. Not sure who was doing the testing or who wrote the article. The result of the article is that the powder that is best in normal length tubes is also the best in long and shorter tubes.

So....if 4350 or RL17, (or whatever) is best at one length it will also be best all around.

My memory isn't 100% on this, but someone out there must remember the article and could ring in.
