Shopping for new rifle

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new rifle. Thinking about a .243, but a also considering a .243IMP or a 6.5 Rem. I'm going to use the rifle as a mid to lond range varminter rifle 400 to 800 yds. Just want some new opinions on caliber as well as make, factory vs custom builder). Any thoughts or ideas will be welcomed.

Thanks for your comnments

hi hath, the first thing i did when i started looking around here was to read all the old guns of the week. everything there from heavy target to varmint to hunting rifles. then i would read all the cartridge info pages, allot of good info to compare one cartridge to another.
after doing allot of reading, and being cheap) i put together a stevens model 200. with a fred moreo trigger, a shilen prefit 6.5-284 30" barrel and a choate stock. had enough money left for a leupold 6.5-20. it shoots great. i just shoot targets with it.
for varmints how about a 6mm br or brx or a dasher? alot of good cartridges to choose from, and all you have to remember is the faster it shoots, the shorter the barrel life is.
all guns are fun, good luck cliffe

Hath,

If you go with a custom, I would build a 6BR with a 28", 1-8 twist barrel. I would also look at the 6x47 Lapua too. Regarding Factory, I would look at the Savage F-Class in 6BR.

Hath, As of now I can share thoughts about the 6 X 47. It is accurate, low recoil, and shoots flat. Soon, I will be able to share thoughts on the 6BR. Either of these will fill your bill but there are several other calibers within the 6mm and 6.5 arena that will do well also. Bill
