Shooting with Prescription Progressive eye glass

I was out shooting the other day and I finally took my glasses off and looked through my 36x Sightron, I was amazed at how clear the scope really was, usually with my glasses on I have to look through the very top part of the sight pic to get a decent bit of clarity. The crosshair is missing with my glasses off I cannot adjust the reticle to see it, what can I do need help please. with my glasses I see the CH but scope is not very clear with my glasses off it is one the clearest scopes I ever looked through, I'm confused

I was talking to Bullzeye guy the other day he told me to shoot without my glasses and the scope is clear but crosshair is just a faint grey line.

Progressive lenses are not the way to go when using optical instruments.

Regular lenses for distance. Bifocals if you need them.

Ask your Eye Doctor.

Regards,

Steve

This only works if you don't have astigmatism. With astigmatism you must use corrective lenses and it's critical to be looking through the optical center of the lens. When I shoot iron sights I must now use a special pair of shooting glasses. The right (dominant) eye lens is cut for mid-range vision (about where the front sight is) and is rotated and positioned using a special attachment so I look through the center of the lens and the lens is perpendicular to the line of sight.

After talking to my eye doctor and three shooting glass companies, I ordered RX shooting glasses with just my distance vision prescription. No bifocals or progressive lenses, which is what I normally wear. I still have my older non-RX shooting glasses, since it has only been recently that I need any distance correction and then when using a scope I have plenty of focus adjustment in the scope.

scope shooting typically u are looking through the upper part of the glasses,

I have a set of shooting glasses made for that purpose which has the distance correction in the upper and a bifocal for reading set at the BOTTOM of the frame, the result is I have no sweat with the scope clarity.

I will talk to my Doc and maybe just get a pair of bifocals or a pair with one lense prescript only, and thanks for the replys, I really just can't figure why without my glasses the scope is crystal clear and I cannot adjust the ocular to find the crosshair, if I could get a CH I would be just happy because I sold a vortex thinking it was bad when it was me using my glasses, I'm just confused. Have a great day it's raining nonstop here in Ky

I have lens implants in both eyes, the dominate eye implant is optimized for the front sight on my match AR and is close for the M1-A. I can shoot irons or scope with non prescription shooting glasses. I do have progressive bifocals for reading and everyday close work.

Before cataract surgery and the implants I had a pair of shooting glasses made up by a doctor in Richmond VA who was a bulls eye shooter. He had the proper correction for the front sight in the upper half of the lens and the lower half was optimized to read and make entries in my data book. This set up worked well for many years.

I am 51 and just started to wear prescription glasses a little over a year ago. Mine are progressive no line bifocals and i have 1 eye that will see better close up and the other better at further distance. I never thought to explain my situation about shooting but they seem to work fine for me with no problems. The only issue that i due have is that i mount my scopes as low as i can get them and need to keep the glasses as far up on the nose as i can or i start to look over and partly through them and it will screw up my sight picture in the scope.

Think I will try my glasses all the way back against my brow, and a few other things, maybe lower rings and see what happens.

I had your problems many years ago. I took the leap and went in for LASIK on both eyes. It was a beautiful world for almost 10 years. Went in to have a correction done but, the doctor said I needed cataract surgery. Now I have implants and I'm happy again.

You're NOT supposed to see the target clear anyway at shot break! Your vision should be on the apex of the reticule and the target should be somewhat of a blur! Same as using aperture sights!!

In this manner....you can make a good CALL!!

I've use no line bi-focal glasses for over 30 years with no problem while using iron sights or scopes. Since having both lens replaced I wear line-less bi-focal glasses and have no problem with focus iron or scoped. I had yellow prescription glasses made for shooting and they are great with peep sights.
