Shooting Range Target Games

Every now and then I like to take away from load developments range visits and regular circle target shooting and have some fun at the range. Anyone have any interesting ideas for shooting range games. For example, me and my buddy have a target with all 52 cards from a deck and we play 5 card stud by shooting certain cards. Also, we have a dartboard style one as well for cricket and 351 that is pretty fun. I'm interested to hear your ideas as well.

Stuff golf balls into holes in heavy cardboard.

Collect some flies on a sheet of that sticky insect trap paper and see who can hit a fly using them for rim fire targets at 100 yards (PETA members need not apply)

Make up a dueling target tree using balloons (blow 'em up as big or as small as you like).

shooting grapefruits with hollowpoints is so much fun it probably should be illegal. oranges are a bit smaller but their thinner skin don't allow the explosion noted with gfruits.

+1 on the grapefruit but i take a syringe at inject them with different color food coloring and set them up like a hostage situation and see if i could only hit the badguy if i shoot right all u see is red explosion

a little tannerite in the gfruit adds a bit more to the excitement, but this stuff is banned on our range. put 3-5+ oz in plastic containers (use your imagination) with or without colored powdered tempra and you have technicolor explosions. 1/2 to 1# of this stuff and you can move boulders and earth. the later is not recomended at your local range.

Charcoal briquettes hanging from string and swaying in the breeze are a kick to shoot. If you put them on cardboard backing, they blow big holes in the cardboard when hit.

Two balloons, same color(good guys), one , different color,( bad guy), on strings about 4 foot long. With a slight breeze its a lot of fun.

I kinda like Grapefruits and couldn't bring myself to shooting one. Now Tomatoes! I hate them slimy things! Do you suppose they would offer enough resistance for V-Max or BlitzKing's? ???

tomatoes are 90+ % water so they pop like balloons. a thick skinned gfruit offers a lot of resistance, so they emit a whhhaaacckk when hit and vaporize. these biodegrade so no long term mess. i am a reformed, perverted explosive nut, so here are a few more: on a really hot day buy some cheap soda in cans. shake them and set out in the sun. they explode but leave a lot of little pieces of alum, so i don't do this anymore. get plastic soda bottles. put in a teaspoon of sugar and warm water, add some yeast, shake to dissolve, cap and set aside. as the yeast ferment the sugar the bottle fills with carbon dioxide and will become very distended and may not compress when squeezed. hit one of these with a hollowpoint, etc and you will get a loud POP!. many plastic bottles stay intact, so cleanup is easy. the smell is nice....like rising bread! one i have not tried...put a small piece of "dry ice" in an empty plastic soda bottle, esp the 2 liter ones and cap. dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide, so it turns back into gas and can really swell the 2 ltr and if too much will explode on it's own...my son did this in biochem class so there is a learning curve to this one. one can simulate varmint's body resistance by adding instant oats to the sugar/yeast soda bottle(some red food coloring will give a "pink mist") shake and let "rise". this last one REALLY produces the sound of ghog impacts. i'm sure i'll recall more later.

Not a lot of drama, but fishing bobbers hanging on a piece of monofilament line strung between two posts. Really fun at 500 meters. ;D

Pool chalk drag race.
I used to run a drag race with rim fire rifles at 50 yds.
7 or8 chalks glued to a board. One color for the field chalk and one for the stop chalk. So 6 green and red stop. You race an opponent magazines are limited to 5 rounds so there was a mandatory change. I think a bolt gun actually won over the 10/22 on one occasion. Pool chalk comes in many colors and when bought by the gross it is like 20$

When I used to muzzle loader shoot, splitting the projectile on an axe blade and breaking a balloon on each side of the axe was in vogue. Breaking eggs on a string also. I did not play that game because if you missed the egg, it was a requirement to eat it - raw.
