Shooting precision rifle suppressed

I shoot most everything suppressed bcuz I prefer it. I fight being annoyed at people with "canons" who don't. Its less abrasive to fellow shooters as well as to those living around the range who could try to get it shut down, should the range become excessively lod..

That aside...

I've read several places suppressor cav ever so slightly tighten up groups on a precision rifle (this is assuming proper, symmetrical installation.)

Of course, the extra weight on the end of the barrel can cause a PoI shift... tho not always.

Who shoots suprpessed and what's you obsevations of its affect on accuracy? (I checked for others accuracy threads, and didn't find anything on point)

My 6.5 CM is sub 0.5" at 100 yds suprpessed and my CZ 457 with Lilja bbl is about 0.30" at 50 yds suppressed.

My Sav 10 PC-SR 20" .308 shot noticeably better with a Gemtech Sandstorm 9" Ti can installed.

Same can on a Sav 10 BA Stealth 24" 6.5CM more than doubled the group size.

Same profile/contour, just 4" difference in length. Not sure what, if any, conclusions could be drawn from that other than one barrel it helped, another one it did not.

I shoot a Tikka T3 Tactical in 308 with Thunder Beast direct thread in F-Class matches. It does increase accuracy a little. I shoot it on everything else as well. It has the same effect on all of them. It does change the POI on most all of them though.

We have multiple .22 LRs and .223s that are shot suppressed. The only thing we have noticed is most exhibit a slight POI shift. We have never had any degradation in precision, only POI shifts.

No suppressors for me, but it can act like a barrel tuner. The tuner can be used to make groups bigger, or smaller. Some loads will get bigger, some smaller. Also have to be shooting precise enough to notice the effects.

I like being annoying. Actually I like the suppressed shooters, especially when we are side by side and my MBM is barking.

I personally have never seen the accuracy do anything but increase. POI will normally change and I would guess it has more to do with weight at the muzzle than anything else. I would also GUESS that if accuracy drops it's going to be from a threaded muzzle that isn't concentric. My FEELING is that I shoot better suppressed because it's just more pleasant to shoot.

My cans never effected group size in any rifle or caliber I used them on but it does change the POI slightly. Cans are nice but I don't run one in matches as it's one more thing to worry about and a good brake will give better recoil reduction.

I recently borrowed a can for a suppressor only match. Load was tuned for barrel+brake that I've been running for 6+ months. First can I screwed on was an older (but high quality) heavy 9 inch model and the groups went all to hell. I thought I was crazy trying to re-zero it until I realize it was shooting 2.5 inch groups suddenly. Took that off and installed 5 inch TBAC ultra and groups went right back to normal .5 ish size and was zero'd up well in just a couple shots.

I don't have enough experience to know if anything gets -better- with a can, but this is the first time I've seen something get markedly worse too.

My rifles have all shot tighter groups suppressed. Problem I have right now, when I shoot with a suppressor combined with a Blackhawk axiom stock I see every heart beat through the scope. Same action/barrel/suppressor in a "regular" stock appears dead steady. Can't figure out what type of rear bag to use with the axiom stock.

I shoot a Form 1 direct thread suppressor on my 223 and 308 AR's. As long as it is kept tight, group size is the same.

The biggest difference I have noticed is that is definitely easier to spot hits at range, mainly because the extra weight at the end of barrel keeps muzzle rise to a minimum.

I have also found that shooting suppressed is indeed easier. My 223 AR suppressed has ridiculously low recoil and is incredibly easy to shoot well compared to every other rifle I have.

You probably already know this but unless the person who owns the can is standing there, you can't borrow 1 and take it out of his/hers sight.

Gun was left with the can owner overnight, just so I didn't have to spin off/on and even consider zero might change the next day.

All rules were followed in the making of this video ;)
