Shooting glasses

What is the best color of lens on shooting glasses for target shooting? Yellow or clear. Also, thoughts on Beretta Clash shooting glasses.

S&W has a set that has 4 lens, I like them and I own Oakleys for shooting, simple to replace the lens and they fit well! (inexpensive too!)

I purchased a pair of pillas with light peach. They have a lot of contrast but very natural. I forget I’m wearing them.

I shoot mostly off a bench from 50 yds (RF) to 600 yds (CF). A year ago I purchased a pair of prescription Decot "Hy-Wyd" glasses with Trivex lenses. They recommended their "bronze" tinted lenses for the type of shooting I do. I am very pleased with them, I only wish I had spent the money years ago!

I shoot a lot of trap and have switched to pillas from decot and ranger. The difference in clarity is amazing. I've got 5 lenses I swap for different backgrounds and conditions. I talked to the dealer about a lens for shooting rifles and pistols and he recommended a lens called 92 lime and it works great. PLEASE, whatever glasses you buy make sure they are shatter proof. Some make lenses in materials that offer better clarity over protection. Ask the seller when you are buying if the lens material will offer eye protection needed for the shooting sports. Pillas are expensive but one thing that is a bonus is if your wear corrective lenses they make a insert that can be changed so you don't have to buy all lens shades each time. Pillas web site has an interactive section on their site that compares how shades work in different conditions.

Back when I could see iron sights, I tried every shade available for my Knobloks. Would think I finally found a color that was better but I always returned to the clear lense in the end.

Clear for non glare work and darker for bright days. Primary concern for me is safety. As long as the glasses are US ANSI Z87+ Certified.

Download the MEC/Centra catalog - it is a company that specializes in products for position shooters; on page 16 is a very good explanation about how to use the various color filters that are an option on their sights, both iris and aperture.

Your sight picture is really subjective based upon many factors: age, health, target lighting, time of year, etc. I use several different color filters on my rear sight - peach, C41 blue, and brown. It takes about 2 minutes to read the article and gives several explanations.

Although your question is safety glasses specific, it does address the various colors, and their effect on the target.

I bought Decot with rose colored lens a while back for Sporting Clays. I got an extra lens for my right eye with a highter diopter that allows me to focus on the iron front sight of my match rifle. It also worked for handgun shooting.

Amazing how much better you shoot when you can see the front sight. The other main benefit is that they help protect your eyes from mishap.

I don't have a choice...prescription blue light blocking to the max...and transition to very dark...in sunlight ...Can't see the target, it doesn't matter...I have to preserve what's left of my eyesight with these glasses. I can't read out of my shooting eye, only my left eye let's me read...but I still shoot right handed...I have a preference...and it makes a huge difference...summer sunshine on the target over my shoulder right shoulder, most other positions are a guess as where the center of the bulleye is at...The local range the sun is always wrong, so I never go there anymore, except once on friend request. I go into the mountains, position my targets so I can see them...the sun moves ...I move...and I ain't near as good as I used to be, but feel I'm lucky to be able to carry on with the shooting & machining hobbies...with a lot of light and extra magnification...

Focusing on eye protection for the typical shooter, the folks at LuckyGunner published a video reviewing shooting glasses. Probably leaves a lot to be desired for several of you, but I learned some things.
