Shooting coated vs non-coated DTACs

I remember reading somewhere that the loads for coated vs uncoated bullets are not the same. In this case, talking about 115 DTACs, and currently shoot uncoated at 39.4 gr H4350. Any advice on where to start with the coated variety? Thx.

What coating? I use HBN on bullets and barrel. I usually start a grain or so below and work back up. Accuracy is usually at or near bare bullet velocity, but not always. When breaking in a barrel with HBN, I use a slurry mix applied with a bore mop. Also reduce powder charge by 2 grains for first 3 shots, then start workup.

If you're using another coating, disregard my comments cause I don't have a clue.:p

I prefer uncoated bullets. The DTAC's are great bullets and I shot the uncoated bullets in my 6mm Dasher 8 twist. (see picture below). I tried some HBN in the same barrel and could never get as good groups as with the uncoated. James10-shot w Tubb 001.JPG

I agree, my accuracy node is usually the same velocity with and without HBN. To get back to the same velocity, I almost always end up adding about .5gr to the load with coated bullets. My guess is you will end up around 40gr with coated to get the same velocity. I would chrono uncoated and then the coated with the same powder charge and then make adjustment from there. Also remember it takes several rounds (3-5) with HBN coated bore and bullets to get stable.
