SHOOTING AND LOAD DEVELOPMENT

1911cwp

You don't know what you don't know.
Hello. I am new to reloading for a rifle. I have been reloading for pistol for many years, however there are a lot of differences that I can realize when reading posts from others. Is there a good book that instructs one in developing loads for a rifle? Items of interest are basic rifle reloading, developing loads for accuracy, jump and jam bullets, vertical stringing, stuff like that. There are simply too many questions I have to be any more specific. If a good book is available I feel it would be a good resource in a logical order rather than to just ask random questions. Thank You all for your help.

The Book of Rifle Accuracy by Tony Boyer
Extreme Rifle Accuracy by Mike Ratigan
The Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy by Glenn Newick

The first thing I would do is to read some good reloading manuals like Lyman's manual, then the hornady manual to understand the process. Also if you google rifle terms and it gives a super list of common reloading and shooting terms with there meanings. The other thing to do is to reead the riflemans journal on the web. Then once you really get used to the terms and process you can ask questions that are specific.

For the beginner, the Lyman Reloading Handbook is excellent in my opinion. It not only tell you what and how to perform the various steps in detail, but also why. It also offers suggestions on which powder to begin with for each cartridge. After you master the fundamentals you then can move on to more advanced books and techniques.

If possible, one of the best ways to learn is from an experienced reloader.

I will second the Lyman reloading book. It is very complete. Speer also makes a good one. The Hornady book is a little vague.

I just finished reading Tony Boyers book and will read it again going over sections I want to make sure I understand. From there I will move forward to other suggested books. TNX again.
