Re: Fishing with an AK anybody?

TOZ -

Howdy !

I knew a guy that shot his AK-47 into water. One bullet came back, and gave him a rather nasty " gut shot " ; which..... eventually cost the man his government job.

When people warn you to not shoot @ / into water, there's a darn good reason why !

Re: Fishing with an AK anybody?

Title of this thread is misleading, my bad. The video shows a guy shooting in the water not into the water. I would do neither. If you can suffer through the beginning minutes of the video there are some good underwater shots and interesting to see in slow motion everywhere gas bubbles escape from the rifle. Good photography.

Good photography.

My queery, also.maybe it only happens when you forget to remove a cleaning rod? Might be, the AK IS a great design.😳 The slo motion was very interesting to watch. I fully expected the gun to blow. Thanks for sharing. PS: I'll continue with my cautious, unobstructed ways.

Re: Fishing with an AK anybody?

Just a guess about why the water in the bore is not an dangerous obstruction; the gas port might be relieving enough water pressure ahead of the bullet to prevent swaging it. The water itself might be acting as a lubricant.
The added weight of the column of water in the bore does not itself seem to create an overpressure situation with the ammo they are using. It might be different with hotter ammo.

It was also surprising for me to see the large gas pocket created by muzzle blast which displaced a large amount of water in a very short time.

You guys go jump in your pools and tell us how it works!!

If you are crazy enough to take this seriously just make sure that your head is not underwater and that you wear a heavy neoprene skuba suit to dampen the shock wave to your body. Or better still.....don't take this seriously.

Interesting how the barrel flexes during the shot.

Water will not act like a barrel obstruction if the entire barrel is full, but if you have an air filled segment and then water... Then it can act as an obstruction. I don't know how underwater shooting affects chamber pressures as I have done it with .22 rim fire only.

very cool. i was even more surprised that the gun actually cycled the spent casing in one of the shots. I guess the same principals apply under water

The end with the scientific explanations made that a complete program.

Real interesting. Thanks for posting that link.
