SHOOTER App

I pulled the trigger on the Shooter App, by Sean Kennedy found here http://www.shooterapp.net/
Just wanted to post my findings.

A few features it claims to have is not on my App. This is frustrating. Also the Automatic Atmosphere feature which is suppose to pull info from local weather station is not accurate and gives very odd altitude readings that change each time I open the app.

Emailed him with my concerns so hopefully I hear back and possible solutions to fix.

Other than the major issues, the App looks great and seems like it will be very useful in the field

iPhone or Droid?

I got Shooter, BulletFlight, iStrelok, iSnipe and Ballistic AE on my iPhone 4S, Ballistic AE is my go to program, all of them suck at getting atmospherics with, I use a Kestrel 4000 to give me Density Altitude, one number is easier and faster to input, and has proven to be very accurate out to 1 mile once trued.

I have it on a Droid. Since I don't have a Kestrel for Density Altitude, I have some of the features turned on and some turned off. I have powder temperature turned off as it will tell me velocity is 40 or 50 fps higher than "sighted in" temp when it is a hot day.

I think you just need to get used to the program and carefully go thru the various settings. Also which of the location services do you have turned on (within your phone)?

Bill any pointers would help :-[ I have messed with it some more and think it makes more sense. Still not seeing the option for PRESSURE INPUT type that the manual states should be under the Ammo Profile and under Atmospheric Conditions? I am sure I am just not seeing this. It also states there should be a ? by the option to explain the choices. Not seeing that either :-\

I have all my GPS and location services enabled on my smartphone.

On the preferences I have the following enabled: Automatic Latitude, Automatic Atmosphere, Always enable spin drift

Also noticed a bug in the App that when I scroll down in the solution screen on my distances, if I go below zero and then go back it messes up the distances and the yardage options are now showing 10,35,60,85, etc..... And I have to exit out and re enter the solution screen and be careful NOT to go below zero

**I read through the instructions about 4 times and all the options. Even watch Litz' video on his AB App which is the same from what I gather, just 3x more $$$

The GPS in the phone is just not that accurate for altitude. However, I doubt the changes you mentioned will affect scope settings for even 1000 yards.
My groundhog hunting locations vary from 850' to 1050' and I know the GPS in the phone is off by 50' at times but I'm still killing g'hogs. Anyway, that is a phone problem and not an app glitch.

When you mention PRESSURE INPUT, are you referring to atmospheric pressure? If you're not seeing atmospheric pressure, you may have altitude density selected. If so, and if you don't have a Kestrel, uncheck it.

Maybe the instructions say PRESSURE INPUT referring to the atmospheric conditions? I do not have density altitude checked.

This is the parts of instructions I am not sure I see......
Pressure Input Type - This is for specifying how you want to input your current pressure. There is a "?" button right next to this input which explains each option.

This in the instructions under Shot Data & Atmospheric Input and also under Adding Ammo Profile

Maybe I have everything correct setting and the directions just call a setting something else and that is why I think I am not seeing a setting ???

The only pressure reference I see on my app is for atmospheric pressure. The only other pressure (with regards to shooting) that I can think of is chamber pressure, and I can't think of a reason for dealing with that as chamber pressure and muzzle velocity go hand in hand.

Pressure - corrected to sea level - does not have that much variation as far as scope correction is concerned. I set my 100 yard zero barometric pressure to 29.92 (corrected) and forget about it. A half point swing (to 29.42 or 30.42) in barometric pressure (excluding hurricanes, etc) is fairly significant yet doesn't affect scope come up all that much. !! Before everybody starts screaming - yes, it is significant enough to miss a groundhog at 1000 yards, but you will still hit paper with a sighter at a 1000 yard competition.
